STASH 2020-2021 (HS Nats Level) Mirrors/Playtesting

Post by moneyman101 »

Hello everyone, the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (Alexandria, VA) is pleased to announce the Spring TJ Advanced Scholastic Housewrite (STASH), a high school housewrite for the Fall/Winter 2020-2021 season. This set is intended to be NATIONALS level difficulty. As both STASH's distribution and difficulty are meant to emulate PACE NSC, we recommend that mirrors are run using the PACE rule set. The questions will be 6-7 lines long in size 10 Times New Roman. The set will consist of 14 packets of 20 powermarked tossups and 20 bonuses plus a tiebreaker packet.

Writers and Editors

Writing for this set are Stefan Calin, Justin Chen, Sathya Gnanakumar, Pratyush Jaishanker, Elliot Lee, Anuraag Kaashyap, Vishal Kanigicherla, Vance Kreider, Joshua Lian, Prithvi Nathan, Sohom Paul, Karthik Prasad, William Wang, Ryan Xu, and Kevin Zhang, all current/recently graduated TJ Quizbowl team.

Our head editor for this set is Will Alston (Columbia), who will also be editing Modern World. Our current subject editors are: Michael Yue (Harvard, editing Auditory and Other Fine Arts as well as Science), Grant Li (UChicago, editing Visual Fine Arts and Literature), James Malouf (Berkeley, editing History), Dan Ni (Cornell, also editing Science), Ankit Aggarwal (editing RM), and Jack Mehr (editing PSS).

Mirroring

The set is currently 100% written, and will be fully ready for mirrors by November 1st. We are planning to have online regional mirrors, similar to IKEA and LIT. As before, the mirroring fee is $25 per team.

We are looking for the following online regional mirrors:

Northeast (NJ, NY and everything to the east and north) -> QuBIT VII @ High Tech HS (3/6)
Mid-Atlantic (PA, MD, DE, WV, VA) -> TJHSST (12/19)
Southeast (KY, TN, NC, SC, GA, AL, MS, FL) -> STASH Southeast (4/3)
Great Lakes (MN, WI, IL, IN, MI, OH, MO) - note Iowa is excluded -> Auburn HS (4/17)
West Coast (WA, OR, CA, AZ, British Columbia) -> West Coast Championship (3/27)
Lower Midwest, Texas, and Rockies (everything between West Coast and SE/Great Lakes) -> TQBA (12/12)
Open -> TJHSST (Date TBA)

To request a mirror, please contact us at [email protected]

Both colleges and high schools can host mirrors. If high schools host, they will be able to play in a different regional mirror. All regional mirrors will be closed, and it will be up to the host if they will allow college freshmen (c.o. 2024) to compete as a closed team with their current college. Any requests from teams to play in a different regional mirror should be directed to [email protected]

Playtesting

Beginning on October 1st, we will be playtesting the set. Playtesting will be for collegiate and open players only. Playtesting dates/times will be flexible, so you do not have to be on at a certain time. If you’re interested in playtesting, please fill out this form:

I am the head coach at Auburn High School in Rockford IL. We would be interested in hosting a mirror in the spring and was wondering if you are still looking for a host in the Great Lakes area.

Thanks,

Nevagay Abel
