Announcing the Southeast-Midwest Housewrite, a nationals level set for Winter-Spring 2021

Post by etotheipi »

We are proud to announce the Southeast-Midwest Housewrite, a PACE-level question set which will be available for mirrors starting on February 1, 2021. Tossups will be seven lines before powermarking in Times New Roman 10 point font.

The set is edited by Aidan Leahy [UGA], Govind Prabhakar [Georgetown], Arjun Nageswaran [Adlai E. Stevenson], Katherine Lei [MIT], Dylan Bowman [UIUC], Ethan Strombeck [Stanford], William Groger [Miami Valley], and Ethan Ashbrook [UMN] with featured writers from Yale, UIUC, Stanton College Prep, Lambert, and University Lab. Taylor Harvey [UF] will be acting as a general overseer.

Our set will contain 14 packets of 20/20 tossups and bonuses, as well as tiebreakers.

As of late December, the set is almost fully written, and is currently being edited.

Our distribution will be as follows (subject to tweaking):

4/4 literature, with 1.25/1.25 long fiction, 1/1 poetry and short fiction/other, and 0.75/0.75 drama
4/4 history, with 1/1 of each of: American, British/European, World, ancient/classical/cross/miscellaneous/other
4/4 science, with 1/1 of each of: biology, chemistry, physics, other science/math
3.5/3.5 RMPSS, with 1/1 of each of: religion, mythology and 0.75/0.75 of each of: philosophy, social sciences
3/3 fine arts, with 1/1 of each of: auditory, visual, other
1.5/1.5 other, with 0.5/0.5 of each of: current events, geography, trash/general knowledge

The distribution of this set is very close to the distribution of PACE, with some tweaks.

The cost to mirror this set will be $25 per team.

A list of mirrors of this set can be found below:

2021 AQBL ONCT, June 26-27, 2021

To inquire about a possible mirror of the set, please email [email protected] to set up the mirror [edit: as this set is going to be used for the ONCT, we will not be allowing high school mirrors of the Southeast-Midwest Housewrite at this time]. Mirrors should be scheduled for after February 1st, 2021. We encourage prospective hosts of this set to dissuade newer teams from attending, as this set is intended to emulate a nationals-level question set. We also encourage prospective hosts to use a rebracketing format rather than single or double elimination. Please do not alter questions or rearrange them in any way.

If this is going to be written at PACE difficulty it's probably a good idea to seek collegiate mirrors of the set.

This set is currently seeking for an editor for biology and chemistry. If you are interested, or if you know anyone who would be interested, please contact [email protected].

Edit: This spot has now been occupied.
