RAFT II Announcement (2020-21)

Post by A_Failure »

This is an announcement for the second iteration of RAFT (Regular Academic Fall Tournament), which will be available for mirrors starting November 1, 2020 through the end of the 2020-2021 season. As the name implies, this will be a regular difficulty set. The set is currently 81% written and we anticipate having plenty of time to edit and playtest before our first mirrors.

The distribution will be identical to last year’s RAFT set, which was as follows:
4/4 History (1/1 each of American, European, World, and Other)
4/4 Science (1/1 each of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Math + Other Science)
4/4 Literature (1/1 American, 1/1 European, 0.85/0.85 British, 0.7/0.7 World, 0.45/0.45 Classical)
3/3 Fine Arts (1/1 each of Painting/Sculpture, Classical Music, and Other)
3/3 Religion, Mythology, Philosophy, and Social Science (1/1 each of Religion and Mythology, 0.5/0.5 each of Philosophy and Social Science)
1/1 Geography and Current Events (0.5/0.5 each)
1/1 Popular Culture

I, Dean Ah Now, will be head editing this set with Daniel Yang. Questions will be written by members of the first RAFT set, along with a host of new writers from various high schools. Our subject editors will be:

Derek Chu: History/Visual Fine Arts
Maxwell Ye: Science
Karsten Rynearson: Literature
Shardul Rao: Auditory Fine Arts/Other Fine Arts
Daniel Yang: Religion/Mythology
Dean Ah Now: Philosophy/Social Science
Abhinav Karthikeyan: Geography/Current Events/Popular Culture

The mirror fee will be $10 per team. Hosts will receive 14 packets, each with 21 tossups (20 for a standard game plus a tiebreaker) and 20 bonuses. If you are interested in using our set, please contact me at [email protected].

Just a quick update: we've announced our first few mirror sites, and the set production has gone along earlier than expected, so it will be ready by October 1, 2020. If you need a set to use for a tournament in the next few weeks (or throughout the rest of the school year) feel free to reach out to me about mirroring RAFT!
