CATT XVII hosted by Chattahoochee HS (11/13/21 - CALISTO 2) (In person)

Post by alisony.9 »

Chattahoochee High School is pleased to announce the 17th Annual CATT (Chattahoochee Academic Team Tournament).
Our tournament will be held on November 13th, 2021 at:

Chattahoochee High School
5230 Taylor Road
Johns Creek, GA 30022

Format:
*We will only field a single division: there will be no JV division, but teams containing JV level players are still encouraged to compete.

The tournament is tentatively scheduled to be in person, but we will continue to monitor conditions and adjust according to our district’s COVID policies. All CATT participants will have to adhere to Fulton County masking rules, whatever those are at the time of the tournament.

In the event that we are unable to host the tournament in person, we will host the tournament in an online format (likely Discord).

Each team will play preliminary rounds in the morning and playoff rounds in the afternoon.
  • Lunch (pizza) will be served after prelims and concessions will be available for purchase.
  • The rules/format of the tournament are subject to change depending on how large the field is. We plan to cap the field at 32 teams.
  • Trophies/plaques will go to the top teams.
  • Book prizes will go to the top individual players.
  • We are planning to keep individual stats. Thus, we also request when you register to fill in the names of the players attending to the best of your ability. Any roster changes can be made when you check-in to the tournament.
Cost:
  • The cost will be $80 per team.
  • There will be a $5 discount for each working buzzer system (limit 2 per team).
  • There is a $20 "distance" discount for each team that is over 100 miles away (calculated from the shortest route on Google Maps) or from a different state than GA.
  • Registration payment can be brought in on the day of the tournament or mailed ahead of time.
  • Lunch will be $5 and will consist of two slices of pizza, a bag of chips, and a water or soft drink.
  • Make checks payable to Chattahoochee High School, and you may pay through mail (Chattahoochee High School 5230 Taylor Road Johns Creek, GA 30022) or on-site when you check-in to the tournament.
  • There will also be an option to pay online that will be set up at a later date.

Question Set:
We will be mirroring CALISTO 2, a high school regular difficulty question set. Information about the set can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=109&t=25155.
A past iteration of the set can be found here: https://quizbowlpackets.com/2378/.

Rules:
  • Rounds are 20/20 with one tiebreaker tossup if needed.
  • We will use powers (15) and negs (-5). Five players are allowed per team.
  • We will not use bouncebacks, and substitutes are allowed after each game only (rules are subject to change based on future field size).
  • Timing will be 5 seconds after the question to buzz, 5 seconds to give your answer once you buzz, and 5 seconds to confer and answer on bonuses.
If you have any questions please post here or email [email protected] (cc [email protected]). Please include "CATT XVII" in the subject.

Thank you and hope to see you at the tournament!
