Ithaca Spring Tournament V (4/17/21)

Post by ocmimno »

The Ithaca High School Quizbowl team will be hosting the fifth annual Ithaca Spring Tournament on Saturday, April 17, 2021. This tournament will be held entirely on Discord, although Buzzin.live will be used for buzzing. All players are expected to be online and ready to go at 8:30 a.m. so that we can start the first round no later than 9:00 a.m. The tournament directors can be reached for questions at [email protected], and IHS quizbowl team coach/adviser and co-director Benjamin Kirk can be contacted at [email protected] or by phone at (607) 301-3281.

Question Set

Ithaca Spring will be using MCMT, a regular high school difficulty set.

Eligibility

This tournament is only open to high school teams from New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Teams outside of this region may request to be added to the waitlist. Please note that a mirror of MCMT for New England teams will take place the following Saturday.

Registration

Complete this Google form to register for this tournament. Schools may register up to four teams, and a single team’s roster may not exceed six players (of whom only four will be playing at any time).

Fees

The base price is $80 for the first team and $65 for each additional team. We are also offering a $15 discount for each staffer with experience moderating on Discord that a school provides. If you are interested in staffing, you may register using this Google form. The minimum fee per team is $50. We can accept Venmo or checks written to "Ithaca High School Brain Team" and mailed to Benjamin Kirk, 351 Spencer Road, Ithaca, NY 14850.

Format

We will run a quasi-seeded round robin format in the morning, followed by a rebracketing and another round robin after lunch, with crossover matches for teams in the championship brackets.

The following rules will be used for timing:

- After a player buzzes in, they will have 5 seconds to start their answer
- After a tossup is completed, teams will have 5 seconds to buzz in.
- After a bonus is completed, teams will have 10 seconds to give an answer.

Misconduct

All players, spectators, and coaches must adhere to the PACE Code of Conduct, which includes reporting misconduct either directly to staff or via the misconduct form found at the bottom of the linked website. Every instance of misconduct will be investigated and dealt with seriously by tournament staff. Staff also reserve the right to report confirmed cheaters to local and national Quizbowl organizations.

In order to prevent cheating, players must keep their camera on at all times during matches, and have at least one hand in the view of the camera.

Field

We have a soft cap of 24 teams, but we are willing to increase our field if there is enough interest.
