ReKT IV @ Westview HS (04/10)

Post by aakarshvermani »

Westview High School is pleased to announce ReKT (Real Knowledge Tournament) IV, a high school tournament directed by Connor Rankin and Aakarsh Vermani.

QUESTION SET: The varsity division of the tournament will be using SATURNALIA, a hard high school level question set. The junior varsity division will use IS-#200A, a novice set catered towards less-experienced high school and high-achieving middle school teams.

DATE/TIME: The tournament will take place on Saturday, 10 April, 2021. Check-in will begin at 8:45 A.M., and matches will begin promptly at 9:00 A.M.

LOCATION: The tournament will be run via Discord.

REGISTRATION: Teams must register by emailing [email protected] with the following information: (1) the school's name, (2) the number of teams, (3) the number of moderators. There is no team limit until further notice. Registrations will be confirmed with a reply email. Replying to this thread will not register a team. The registration fee may be paid by Venmo or by check. Please make all checks payable to Westview ASB, with Westview Quizbowl noted on the check.

We will be implementing a soft field cap of 12 teams for the varsity division and 8 in the junior varsity division until we are sure that we have enough staff to accommodate more. As of right now, the first two teams in a division that a school registers will be automatically let into the field, while the remaining teams will be placed on a wait list. If there is room in the field on March 16, the waitlisted teams will be let into the field.

ELIGIBILITY:
All teams are welcome to play in the varsity division.

To qualify for the junior varsity division, all members on a high school team must meet all of these criteria:
-not won more than three (3) tournaments in a single school year at the JV or varsity level
-not scored more than 50 points per game (PPG) at any high school tournament
-not scored more than 30 points per game (PPG) at any high school regular difficulty tournament

Middle school teams are welcome to play in either division, regardless of whether or not they qualify for the JV division.

PRICING:
Schools that did not play any tournaments in the 2020-2021 season will pay a flat $40 per team.

$60 for all teams that have played at least one tournament in the 2020-2021 season.

All middle school teams will start at $50 before the discounts apply.

DISCOUNTS:
- $10 per experienced moderator
Minimum fee: $40 per team

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:
Teams will be allowed to have up to 6 players, but only 4 players can play at one time. Teams with more than 6 players will be asked to split into two teams. Teams will only be allowed to make substitutions at halftime.

We will be using official NAQT rules, with the exception that matches will be run as untimed halves of ten questions each. In addition, ACF rules will be followed regarding timing (8/8/8). A preliminary round robin in the morning will be followed by round robin playoffs in the afternoon based on win-loss records. Ties will be resolved on the basis of points per game (PPG) within brackets, and ties crossing different brackets will be resolved on the basis of win-loss records and points per bonus (PPB).

INQUIRIES: Any inquiries can be resolved through emailing [email protected].
