TAILS Pacific/Rocky/Central Time Zones Tournament (03/27/2021)

Post by kpamurthy »

The TAILS team is pleased to announce that we will be hosting our Pacific/Rocky/Central Time Zones mirror on Saturday, 03/27/2021! TAILS is a middle school/high school novice difficulty set, and as such this tournament will have middle school and novice high school divisions. More details on the set can be found here.

This tournament is primarily for teams from the following states: Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Wisconsin, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama.

We will also be running a tournament on the same set one week later (04/03/2021) for teams in the Eastern Time Zone, but Pacific/Rocky/Central teams may sign up for that mirror if the date works better. The link to the Eastern Time Zone tournament is here.

Date and Time
The tournament will be held online on Discord, starting at 8 AM PST/9 AM MST/10 AM CST. The goal is to have each team play five prelim rounds before lunch, which should happen at 12 PM PST/11 PM MST/2 PM CST. Each team will play a minimum of 8 rounds of 20 tossup/bonus cycles in total. We have a soft field cap of 24 teams in each division, but will expand if there is enough interest and staff.

Eligibility
Every team must be composed of players from the same school. Middle school teams must consist of players in grade 8 or below, and no more than 6 players will be allowed on each team. Novice high school teams must consist of players who are relatively new to quiz bowl. We reserve the right to reject teams that we deem to be non-novice teams, though we will be fairly lenient.

Fees
Pricing will be $60 per team for both the middle school and high school divisions. If a team consists of 2 or fewer players, the fee is $40. Payments may be given by Zelle, Venmo, or check.

Registration
This form can be used to register teams, and this form can be used to sign up to staff. Staffers will be paid at least $35, or community service hours if requested. Staffers should have experience moderating quiz bowl tournaments, and we will have a staffer training session before the tournament to ensure well-moderated games.

Rules
We are using standard ACF rules. Players will have 5 seconds at the end of a tossup to answer, 8 seconds after a buzz to answer, and 8 seconds at the end of a bonus part to answer. This will be strictly enforced.

In addition, each player should have their camera on at all times, with one hand in the view of the camera on tossups, and both hands on-camera during bonuses.

Cheating and Misconduct
All players should follow the PACE Code of Conduct. Misconduct, cheating, and other forms of misbehavior are not tolerated and we reserve the right to remove players if they commit such acts. If you feel that someone is violating any aspect of the Code of Conduct, please reach out to the TD or a staffer. If you feel threatened or unsafe in any way at this tournament, please reach out to the TD or a staffer, or fill out the quiz bowl misconduct form.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me. My email address is [email protected], and my Discord username is ketone#3450, if that is more convenient. I look forward to seeing you there!

The form to sign up as a staffer says that it can only be viewed by users in the administrator's organization.

My apologies. I've changed the form so that it shouldn't have that issue anymore, and I believe the team registration form never had that issue so that should work as well. Thanks for the heads up
