BHSAT XXX at Duke/UNC

[Inscrutable Fox]

I am pleased to announce that Duke and UNC are jointly hosting a mirror of BHSAT XXX on Saturday, March 6, 2021. Further set information can be found here.

This tournament will be held online, via Discord, with an opening meeting held at 9:45 am EST and gameplay beginning at 10 am EST.

Eligibility

This mirror is intended for teams from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. Teams from other regions may register, but preference will be given to teams from within the intended region, and then to teams from regions without mirrors of BHSAT XXX.

Rules

• 20 tossups and bonuses per game
• We will use powers and negs
• No bouncebacks on bonuses

Registration

Please fill out this Google Form to register.
This tournament’s field will be capped at 18 teams. We will maintain a waitlist and consider expansions as necessary, depending on registrations and staff availability.

Fees and Payment

Base fee: $70 per team
Team-provided staffer discount: $-15 per experienced moderator or scorekeeper*
New to quiz bowl discount: $-10 if your school is new to pyramidal quiz bowl or has only played exclusively novice tournaments
Minimum fee per team: $40

Teams will be provided with an invoice and an account/address for payment once they register.

* Note that we expect moderators to be able to complete a round within 45 minutes and to have functional laptops and internet connectivity. Please note as well that priority will be given to staffers from Duke and UNC.

Conduct

Duke and UNC will not tolerate any form of misconduct, including but not limited to harassment and cheating. We will send out a code of conduct to all registered teams. To deter cheating, we are requiring that all players keep their cameras turned on. Please email me at least 24 hours before the tournament if you require an exemption to this rule.

Any misconduct can be reported to tournament staff, or to me directly via dm (through Discord once we are all on the tournament server) or email ([email protected]). The anonymous community-wide misconduct reporting form is also available to all players.

This tournament will be a gold qualifier for PACE NSC, meaning that the top 20% of teams will qualify

Congratulations to DCDS for winning a one-game advantaged final against Chattahoochee A! Thanks to all the teams for playing our tournament, and to Jacob Egol, Vincent Du, Kevin Jiang, Justin Zhang, Eric Gunter, and Jamie Wang for staffing and making sure that a 10 game tournament ran so smoothly (special shout-out to Jacob for running stats and helping me deal with the Discord server setup as well)!
