QuBIT VII @ High Tech [NE STASH mirror] - 3/06/2021

Post by maxryanb »

High Technology High School is pleased to announce our seventh annual Quiz Bowl Invitational Tournament (QuBIT VII), which will take place on Saturday, March 6th, 2021. We'll be mirroring STASH, a nats-level housewrite by Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. This is the official Northeast mirror of STASH, covering all states to the northeast of and including New York and New Jersey. Contact us if you have reason to be excepted from the regional restriction. I, Max Brodsky, will be the Tournament Director of QuBIT VII.

QuBIT VII will be held on Discord using buzzin.live and TJ Electronic Scoresheets with Category Stats. Cameras will be required throughout this tournament and must show both hands of each player. This will be strictly enforced.

We will have an opening meeting at 8:30AM and we're aiming to start at around 9 AM. (Tentative, will be set closer to the date)

Registration
Registration for this tournament will only be accepted through this form, which will be kept open until the end of March 4th. Staff may register here, compensation of $40.

Question Set
We will be mirroring STASH, a nats-level housewrite of difficulty comparable to PACE. Please take this increased difficulty into consideration when signing up, especially if you are a newer team.

Format
The field has a hard cap of 24 teams. Because of this relatively small field size for a large region on a high-level set, we will be prioritizing A-teams for guaranteed spots before B or C-teams, taking into consideration the strengths of teams.

Prelims will be two brackets of eight, playing a seven game round-robin. Top four from each prelim bracket are placed into two championship playoff brackets of four, bottom four are placed into two consolation brackets of four. A two game round-robin will then be played in each of the afternoon brackets, results from teams that shared a prelim bracket carrying over. From those three games (one prelim, two playoffs), placings within playoff brackets will be determined to decide crossover matchups.

Fees
$70 for each team. (No more than six players per team; only four players playing at a time; subs only at half)
-$40 per moderator, no limit. (Those who sign up to staff are not guaranteed a spot and will be notified with time before the tournament)

Payment
More to follow

Any team cancelling after 11:59 EST on Monday, March 1st, will be expected to pay full tournament dues.

Misconduct
We are committed to keeping quizbowl a safe place for all participants. Harassment, cheating, and other forms of misconduct will not be tolerated and we reserve the right to remove any player or team. Players will be expected to abide by the PACE Code of Conduct. If you would like to report any misconduct by players, staffers, or others, please contact me or fill out the Misconduct Reporting Form.

If you have any questions about this tournament, reply to this thread or email me at [email protected].

We look forward to seeing you online in March!

QuBIT VII has been designated a platinum NSC qualifier! The top 25% of teams (rounded up to the nearest integer) will qualify for the PACE NSC.

Congratulations to Belmont for winning the 7th annual iteration of QuBIT!

TAG Magnet in 2nd, Beavercreek in 3rd, Ridgewood in 4th, and East Brunswick in 5th.

Stats can be found here.
Category Stats can be found here.

Thank you to all teams and coaches who attended, hope to see you all next year! Also thanks to the STASH team for providing the set, TJ for creating their wonderful electronic scoresheets, and the creators of Buzzin.live for the platform. I encourage more TD's in the future to try Buzzin.live; I received multiple comments from players on how much they liked using it. This and the other stricter anti-cheating measures we enforced did not cause any delay or issue despite only a few staffers and players being familiar with Buzzin.live before the tournament.
