AQBL September Event @ Southeast

Post by aqblsheetsmanager »

Hello everyone! I’m excited to announce the September Southeast AQBL tournament, run on the ERIS question set. More information about the set can be found here and information about AQBL events can be found here. I (Bo Chi) will be directing this tournament

Time and Date

The tournament will be held on September 12th on Discord, and it will start at 9:00 AM EST. All players and coaches should be logged in by 9:45 AM EST.

Rules

We will use the AQBL Ruleset A for regional events.

Questions and Format

This tournament will be run on the ERIS (Early Release Introductory Set), which is at an Easy difficulty, making it especially accessible to newer teams. Both tossups and bonuses will be read.

Teams will be split up into prelim brackets, and will be re-seeded to their playoff brackets based on their morning performances. Teams are expected to play for the entire tournament.

The field cap of this tournament is 36 teams, and it will be split up into Varsity and JV/Small School divisions. The AQBL may choose to split the region into multiple fields if there is sufficient interest, but that will not affect the registration process in the meanwhile.

The top 2 teams in the Varsity division and the winner of the JV/New School division will qualify for the ONCT next June. More information about the online national championship tournament can be found here.

Eligibility

This tournament will be open to all teams from Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida. Find out more about state eligibility and other events here.

Teams can field up to six players, and four players can be active at any one time; however, smaller numbers of players, such as solos and duos, are also permitted. Teams may substitute players at halftime (after 10 questions), but no players may change teams (ie. from A to B) during the tournament. All players must be from the same team, without exceptions; there will be no chimera (mixed) teams. Teams may use pseudonyms, but must mark them down during registration.

Prizes

The AQBL will mail trophies to the top 3 teams, as well as the top individual scorer.

Payment

The cost for this tournament will be $75 per team. Additionally, there will be a $20 dollar discount per staffer. Payment will be due up front (on the registration form) unless you choose to pay by check or purchase order. You can pay via mailed check, PayPal, Venmo, purchase order, or credit card through the AQBL website. Credit cards and PayPals will incur a 3% fee. We can also provide W-9 forms and invoices upon request.

Write all checks to "The American Quizbowl League". Mail checks to P.O. Box 205, Nesconset, NY 11767.

Staffing

If you wish to staff (moderate or scorekeep) for this tournament, you can sign up here. We will pay $20 per staffer.

Registration

Please register for the tournament here. You are officially registered once you receive a confirmation email from us.

Please register all teams prior to the tournament. The deadline for dropping out of the field is one week prior to the event (Saturday, September 5th in this case), after which you will be responsible for the full amount due. If you cannot pay the full fee due to monetary reasons, please contact us via email and we will be happy to work with you.

Cheating

Cheating will absolutely not be tolerated at this tournament. If sufficient evidence is found, the guilty parties will be banned from the tournament and disqualified from future AQBL tournaments.

Note:

Any form of misconduct will not be tolerated at our events, and guilty parties may be subject to being kicked out of the tournament and/or other punishments. If you ever feel unsafe at a quiz bowl event, you are encouraged to fill out this form, which will anonymously report occurrences of misconduct to other major quiz bowl organizations. However, since AQBL cannot see the results from the misconduct form, you should also report concerns to the tournament director and/or an AQBL administrator.
