NAQT Temporarily Suspends Providing Questions for In-Person Tournaments

Post by Important Bird Area »

Update 7/2/21: NAQT has announced that we will resume licensing questions for in-person tournaments effective August 1, 2021. Read our full statement here. --JTH
naqt.com wrote:NAQT has made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend licensing of questions for in-person quiz bowl tournaments scheduled to take place before Saturday, November 14 in the United States. Because conditions are rapidly changing, we plan to reassess the public health situation in mid-October and make a decision at that point about whether to offer in-person tournament hosting beyond November 13. At this time, hosts may tentatively reserve questions for in-person tournaments beyond November 13. Please bear in mind that we may wind up extending the suspension of supplying in-person tournaments when we reassess in mid-October.

This policy does not apply to televised quiz bowl shows. These shows usually have relatively few teams on-site at a given time and generally have greater capacity to enforce social distancing than a typical Saturday tournament at a college or high school. We plan to continue providing questions to televised quiz bowl shows, even those that begin taping in-person before November.

NAQT currently expects to continue its typical high school and middle school question-writing schedule for this fall, and we welcome proposals from hosts interested in using our question sets for online quiz bowl tournaments. NAQT hosting online will be available starting Saturday, September 19. If you would like to host an NAQT tournament online, please fill out our form or write to [email protected].

This is a great policy and I applaud NAQT for implementing it.
