BHSAT Online

Post by a Joe »

The Long Island Quiz Bowl Alliance is proud to announce the official Discord mirror of BHSAT! Details follow.

DATE AND TIME:

BHSAT Online will take place on SUNDAY, April 5, 2020, from 10 AM EST to 4 or 5 PM. Online registration opens at 9:15 AM. All players and coaches should be logged onto the server by 9:45 AM.

QUESTIONS/FORMAT:

The event will (obviously) be using BHSAT, a High School set of moderate difficulty. In order to ensure the integrity of our tournament, no bonuses will be read. As such, this will be a tossup-only event, with 20 read per round. Otherwise, the tournament will follow NAQT rules.

Teams will be seeded into preliminary brackets, followed by re-seeding for playoffs. All teams will be guaranteed 12 rounds. Teams are expected to stay and play the entire event, even if you are not in contention for the championship.

The initial field cap will be 24 teams. If we get sufficient moderators, we will up this to 36 teams.

TEAMS:

There are a maximum of 4 players per team, all of whom may play at once. No alternates or substitutions will be permitted. Teams may play short, with a minimum of one player. Nobody may switch teams during the tournament, such as from "A" to "B" or otherwise. There will be a maximum of 4 teams per school.

Without exception, all players MUST be from the same school. This is not an open mirror; no chimera teams are permitted whatsoever.

To ensure the smooth functioning of our event, rosters must be submitted at least one week in advance. Coaches are welcome to spectate, as long as we know in advance.

We are happy to allow pseudonymous teams and teams not directly sponsored by their school or district to register. However, we do have certain requirements for these teams, so please contact us via email or phone prior to registration and we will be happy to work with you.

PRIZES:

Trophies will be mailed to the top three teams as well as the top individual. We reserve the right to increase the number of trophies and prizes as the field expands at our discretion.

FEES:

There will be a flat fee of $75 per team. No discounts are available. Fees are due at least one week prior to the event.

Payment can be made via mailed check, PayPal, Venmo, or Wire (if you insist). Please do not mail cash. Note that PayPal, Venmo, and Wire may charge an additional fee. We can process purchase orders and we will provide W-9 forms and invoices on request.

Write all checks to "The Long Island Quiz Bowl Alliance". Mail checks to P.O. Box 205, Nesconset, NY 11767.

REGISTRATION:

In order to register, follow one of these options:

-- Fill out THIS GOOGLE FORM
-- Email us at [email protected] or post in this thread with the following:
---- Number of teams, buzzers, staffers, and question sets per tournament
---- The name of your school, and pseudonym if applicable
---- An email address where we can reach you
-- We can also take registrations by phone; I cannot post the phone number here, but reach out and I will call you.

Once you receive a confirmation from us, you are officially registered.

Please ensure you register prior to the day of the tournament. The drop deadline is one week prior to the event, after which you will be responsible for the full amount due.

STATS:

Full and complete team and individual stats will be posted within 48 hours after the completion of the tournament.

If you have any further questions, please let us know!

I think you're severely underestimating the time it requires to run 12 rounds on Discord.

Probably, which is why we did TUs-only.

BHSAT Online was today! TAG Magnet went 12-1 to win outright, Strake Jesuit came in second, and Detroit Country Day A took third. Hotchkiss came in fourth. Cooper Roh from Hotchkiss was the top individual, closely followed by Philip Terman, who won the neg prize with 36 negs.

Thanks to everyone who participated and thanks a million to our excellent and impeccable staff, particularly to Emily Gunter, who achieved a Quizbowl first today by staffing two tournaments at the same time.

Stats will be up later today or tomorrow; we hope to see everyone at our other online events!
