CATT XV @ Chattahoochee High School (11/9/19 - WAIT)

Post by Jasonl33 »

Chattahoochee High School is pleased to announce the 15th Annual CATT (Chattahoochee Academic Team Tournament).
Our tournament will be held on November 9th, 2019 at Chattahoochee High School:
5230 Taylor Road
Johns Creek, GA 30022

**CATT XV is no longer a PACE qualifier. See replies below for further updates.

Format:
*Note changes from last year
*We will only field a single division: Unlike last year, there will be no JV division, but teams containing JV level players are still encouraged to compete.
Each team will play preliminary rounds in the morning and playoff rounds in the afternoon.
Lunch (pizza) will be served after prelims and concessions will be available for purchase.
The rules/format of the tournament are subject to change depending on how large the field is.
Trophies/plaques will go to the top teams
Book prizes will go to the top individual players.
We are planning to keep individual stats. Thus, we also request when you register to fill in the names of the players attending to the best of your ability. Any roster changes can be made when you check-in to the tournament.

Cost:
The cost will be $65 per team, and $60 for each additional team sent.
There will be a $5 discount for each working buzzer system (limit 2).
There is a $20 "distance" discount for each team that is over 100 miles away (calculated from the shortest route on Google Maps) or from a different state than GA.
Registration payment can be brought in the day of the tournament or mailed ahead of time.
Lunch will be $5 and will consist of two slices of pizza, a bag of chips, and a water or soft drink.
Make checks payable to Chattahoochee High School, and you may pay through mail (Chattahoochee High School 5230 Taylor Road Johns Creek, GA 30022) or on-site when you check-in to the tournament.
Please register through this link:
https://forms.gle/BMXJRUPYqh2Me3Zu7

Rules:
We will be mirroring WAIT (Wayzata Academic Invitational Tournament), which is a regular difficulty high school set, projected to be about as difficult as an NAQT IS set. *Note: this set is projected to be slightly easier than last year’s HFT. Details on the set can be found below:
https://hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewtopic ... 09&t=22850

Rounds are 20/20 with one tiebreaker tossup if needed. Both divisions will use powers (15) and negs (-5). Five players are allowed per team. We will not use bouncebacks, and substitutes are allowed after each game only (rules are subject to change based on future field size). Timing will be 5 seconds after the question to buzz, 5 seconds to give your answer once you buzz, and 5 seconds to confer and answer on bonuses.

If you have any questions please post here or email [email protected] . Please include "CATT XV" in the subject.

Thank you and hope to see you at the tournament!

Our plan is to expand the field cap to 40 teams, so we still have two open spots left. We'll send another field update as well. In addition, we are short one or two readers so we may ask the last couple teams to provide a qualified reader.

UPDATE CATT XV @ Chattahoochee High School (11/9/19 - WAIT)

Post by mikemathis3020 »

We are still trying to adjust to the expanded field, and greatly appreciate the feedback we have received. We decided to go with the overwhelming consensus of how to proceed and best serve our participants.

  • We will NO LONGER BE A PACE QUALIFIER
  • We will have 5 rounds of prelims before lunch.
  • We will have a 16 team single-elimination playoff after lunch.

  • Awards will be given to the top scorer for prelims and the top 4 teams.

We have decided that is is in the best interests of our participants to drop the PACE qualifier requirements, and go to a more manageable format for our 40 team cap.

We have increased to 23 readers, but we are still offering a perks package to any reader that volunteers so that we have backups in case we lose a reader. If you are interested, let me know.
  • Readers will get their choice of pizza lunch or fast-food lunch.
  • A parent will take the order of a reader who chooses fast food.
  • The parent volunteer will go pick up the lunch and bring it to the reader.
  • We will have a VIP lounge with coffee and donuts.
  • Volunteer readers will be cut loose after prelims.

The current filed stands at 39 teams.
Current Field as of 11/3: 39 Teams with one open spot to reach the cap of 40.
Blessed Trinity High School 2
Brookwood High School 2
Calhoun High School 1
Cambridge 1
Campbell High 1
Chamblee Charter High School 2
Cherokee High School 1
Creekview High School 1
Eastside High School 2
Galloway 2
Gordon Central 2
Grady High School 2
Greater Atlanta Christian School 3
Johns creek HS 3
Lakeside 1
Lambert 3
Marist 1
Milton HS 1
North Cobb High School 1
North Gwinnett High School 2
Northview 1
Paideia School 2
Roswell High School 1
Walton High School 1

We look forward to seeing you all there!

Edited per the request of the TDs; simply see here for some general advice on tournament formatting, especially avoiding rebrackets at a time other than lunch. Also, a general point that seeking to be a PACE qualifier may not always be ideal for all tournaments.

Hello Hoover!

We are at our cap of 40. The only way we could add you is if you bring two teams and 1 reader. 42 teams actually works out really nicely if everyone shows up.

Important update:

We've had a team drop so we are now back to 39 teams. We will be able to handle fields of either 40 or 42, so any interested teams should register through this link: https://forms.gle/BMXJRUPYqh2Me3Zu7

If you are not sure if we have reached our cap and may still be interested, feel free to register anyway and we will let you know if you are in or on the waitlist.
