The 2017 Scottie (Glasgow Scottie Invitational)

Post by Scottietodd »

Hello Quiz Bowlers:

I am happy to announce the 2017 Scottie to be held at Glasgow High School in Glasgow, Kentucky on Saturday, August 26 2017.
The past two Scotties have included very strong fields highlighted by 2015 Champion Detroit Catholic Central High School, 2016 Champion Dorman High School, and most of the top schools in Kentucky.

We will be doing our first ever house-write for this tournament. Tyler Reid (University of Kentucky) and Todd Garrison (Glasgow High School) are
overseeing the development of the house-write and we hope to provide a practice/sample round by the end of June. This will be a traditional quiz
bowl tournament and each round will include 20 tossups with 3 part bonuses. There will be powers but there will not be negs and the bonuses will bounce back as at PACE.

History 3/3
Social Science/Current Event/Gov & Pol 2.5/2.5
Sciences 5/5
Literature 4/4
R/M/P 2/2
Arts 3/3
General 0.5/0.5

More specifics as to the makeup of the questions and the writers/editors can be provided on request.....later :)

The tournament will consist of pool play in the morning rounds followed by a regrouping or playoff format that will be determined by the number of teams entered. Each team will be guaranteed a minimum of 9 games and we will seek and expect to receive Platinum status from PACE which means that 25% of the field would qualify for PACE. We will award the top 4 teams, the top Small School team, the top true JV team, and the top 10 individuals from preliminaries. The field will be capped at 36 teams and we expect to fill up quickly, so we will limit each school to two teams initially.

We will continue our tradition of having onsite food options for all students (and parents) so that all coaches and staff can enjoy our awesome
hospitality room. Waters will be free and available throughout the tournament and soft drinks will also be provided free for all participants
during the lunch hour.

The fee for each team will be $70 and there will be a $5 discount for each working buzzer system per team entered. Please email me at [email protected] to reserve a spot for the tournament, receive a sample packet (end of June), and receive additional necessary
information as the tournament approaches.
