2015-16 KQBA Goldenrod Cup

Post by Rococo A Go Go » Sat Aug 29, 2015 7:16 am

The Kentucky Quizbowl Alliance is excited to announce the second edition of the Goldenrod Cup. The Goldenrod Cup is an annual competition that aggregates the results of affiliated good quizbowl tournaments held in the state of Kentucky. A Kentucky team who wins a Goldenrod Cup event will receive 10 points, a team who finishes 2nd will receive 9 points, and this continues down to 1 point for 10th place; after the conclusion of the last Goldenrod Cup event the team with the most points will receive a trophy commemorating their achievement. We have assembled a schedule of tournaments who are already announced, but expect a few more to be added as the year goes on. To qualify as a Goldenrod Cup affiliate, a tournament has to be a varsity high school quizbowl tournament in Kentucky, must be open to at least all Kentucky high school teams, must use pyramidal questions as determined by KQBA, and must offer at least four games to attending teams. Good luck to all the teams competing in these events!

2015-16 Goldenrod Cup Schedule:

August 29: Glasgow Scottie Invitational
October 17: UofL Arts & Sciences Academic Challenge
November 1: University of Kentucky Fall Championship
November 14: Class Act High School Invitational
November 21: WKU Hilltopper Invitational
December 12: Danville Winter Tournament
January 9: Fleming County Academic Tournament
February 27: University of Kentucky Spring Championship
March 5: Kentucky NAQT State Championship

Past Winners:
2014-15: Woodford County High School

Let me take a moment to congratulate Dupont Manual A of Louisville for clinching this year's KQBA Goldenrod Cup! With 47 points and only one tournament in the series left, Manual A currently leads its nearest competition by a margin that cannot be overcome this weekend. We will recognize Manual for this major achievement during our awards ceremony on Saturday, and get a trophy to them as soon as the trophy shop finishes making it. I will post the final standings some time after this weekend's tournament.

Thank you to everybody who hosted, staffed, coached, or played at a tournament this year. We look forward to awarding the Goldenrod Cup for the 3rd time in the 2016-17 school year.
