Bacon Bowl @ Millbrook HS (Raleigh, NC) - 4/26/2014

Post by krakus »

Millbrook High School is proud to announce the inaugural Bacon Bowl, held in honor of Sir Francis Bacon (“Knowledge is power.”) It will take place on April 26, 2014 and is open to all high school teams wishing to attend.

Questions
The tournament will run on NAQT questions (specifically, set IS-133A).

The top 15% of finishers will automatically qualify for the HSNCT to be held in Chicago this May. We are also GOLD certified for PACE, meaning that the top 20% of teams will qualify for their national tournament outside of Washington, D.C., to be held May 24-25.

Format
This tournament will follow official NAQT rules. There will be 9 total rounds. The morning will consist of 6 preliminary rounds with 3 elimination rounds after lunch to determine the final standings. Each team is guaranteed at least 7 rounds of play.

Registration
Please register your team as soon as possible for the competition online here: http://bit.ly/mhsbaconbowl
Check-in on the day of will be from 8:15 to 8:45 AM, with competition beginning soon after.

Fee Structure

Fees:
$60 for the first team registered
$50 per subsequent team registered

Discounts:
$10 per fully functional buzzer system
$10 discount per school, for schools traveling more than 200 miles to attend (determined by Google Maps)
$10 per qualified staffer (moderator/scorekeeper); these individuals must be adults

Please note that the staff discount can only be redeemed once per school. Additionally, staff members must stay for the entire duration of the tournament (or until dismissed by the Tournament Directors) for the discount to be fulfilled.

Payment Methods
Registration fees must be paid either before (mailed to the school) or on the day of the tournament. Checks should be made out to “Millbrook High School." Payments made on the day of the tournament will be accepted in check or cash form. Invoices will be emailed to coaches before the tournament.

Food
Millbrook High School has vending machines available but will not be providing meals for this tournament. However, we are located in the vicinity of a wide, colorful variety of dining options of which we encourage you to take advantage. Restaurant info will be provided.

We look forward to seeing you there!

We are now PACE Gold certified, so in addition to the top 15% of finishers qualifying for the HSNCT, the top 20% will now qualify for PACE's NSC.

The field is still wide open; we encourage you to register as soon as possible!

Due to recent and ongoing inclement weather we've decided to postpone the Bacon Bowl for the safety of participating teams, particularly those traveling from out of town. The tentative reschedule date is April 26, so we encourage all to keep their calendars open for this date. Thank you!

Congratulations to Enloe for winning the Bacon Bowl! A special congratulations, too, to James Island Charter, whose team of underclassmen finished in second place. All statistics from the tournament can be found here.

Thanks to Ryan Rosenberg and Celia Rowland for so graciously volunteering their time and expertise to help make the tournament a success.

As this was our first tournament, we welcome any suggestions for improvement from all schools and volunteers involved. We would love to hear what you guys thought of the tournament today. Thanks!

Thanks to Millbrook for running a great tournament. I really liked how we were guaranteed 9 games (edit: ok maybe not all teams but still, it was nice to be guaranteed 5 games in prelims) and how everything ran on time. And thanks to the moderators (especially those who had to put up with our annoying antics...)

BTW the previous post somehow isn't showing up (at least for me), so here are the stats.
(edit: now I see the previous post.)
FYI, this post and the previous post are appearing and disappearing because you keep editing them and then the moderators have to re-approve them. --Mgmt
