Re: Harvard Fall Tournament VI (11/12/11)

Well, what about other Quizbowl subjects that aren't being "attacked": AP World History has 160,000 test takers in 2010 Bio has 170,000. Ap Physics B has only 60,000 and the curriculum barely relates to Quizbowl, unlike Gov (personal experience.) Physics C has only 30,000 (!). Compared to ...

Were players complaining about the middle school part pf the lit or the high school part? There's not as much consensus among middle school english teachers (on which works are "good") as there is for high school teachers, right?

Yay for all the new teams. How'd you get them to come? Agree with this. excellent teamwork and initiative on the parts of many staffers. A final note: The FNT set needs quite a bit of work before it's played elsewhere. There were still a good number of outright factual errors, lots of repeated subje...

That is bad. We won't be buying your set if you are consciously trying to write harder than HSAPQ and think that having easy bonuses is undesirable. Our tossups should be nearly the same difficulty - we have been aiming for a bit harder HSAPQ since we started this tournament last year. However, we ...

This doesn't apply to me, but I think pretty much all of our junior-year members are taking the SAT that day so they'd prefer a date change. Also, small copy-paste typo: it says 2010.

A quick glance shows me that ACF's first tournament was in 1999, while NAQT's was at least as early as 1996. Not that this really matters, but there are two "ACF" organizations that are related but different, and the earlier one has been running since about 1991. See this for more informa...

Re: Making PowerMarks standard and mandatory

The problem with powers is that they assume the powering team has significantly deeper knowledge than the other, when that isn't necessarily the case. For example, if the 2nd clue is the last power clue, and team A buzzes on clue 1, but team B got buzzer beat or knew the 2nd clue, there isn't much ...

It says 41.

Also, I assumed it didn't include Middle School Series 1.

I went there too...a club definitely didn't exist. Maybe you could help convince the administration to buy 69 packets for 97 dollars (if the "starter package" doesn't include the $20 set). Then with CMST I and II, and maybe some IS A sets and NAQT speedchecks, something could be worked out...

Hi, I'm currently in high school. Our coach has expressed interest in starting a team in the feeder middle school. Additionally, my younger sister will be attending that school 2011-2012.
