Re: Michigan 2017-2018 Schedule and Discussion
Also, it might take some coordinating with district bureaucracy, but I'm going to try to run a tournament in Monroe next school year to introduce some more southeastern Michigan teams to modern quiz bowl. It would theoretically be in the fall, but it's really in the hypothetical phases right now.

Re: Michigan 2017-2018 Schedule and Discussion
To prevent this discussion from becoming stagnant and ultimately fruitless, I think we should create a set of goals or plans to complete through the summer of 2018; otherwise, we run the risk of this conversation being a pipe dream.
Also, good job at IPNCT this past weekend, Sarod.

Re: Where To Start Writing Questions
I'm bumping this because I'm still very interested in writing questions. I'm going to commit to 40-50 questions for a middle school set over the summer, but I would love to contribute to a high school set too if possible. I admit that I have no experience writing questions, but I have recently start...

I think the initial goal (at least for the first few months) is maintaining what we have currently. If there is a website with a clear schedule and tips for starting/maintaining a quizbowl club at a school, there will be benefits to that. After a few months of that, then the next step should be to ...

When is formatting generally finalized? If it already has been and you're wondering why I'm asking, it's in response to the last sentence of the "Format" section on the SSNCT 18 webpage that says that more details will be given once the field is finalized (or something like that).

1. You're right. I was using MHSAA as an example because they're a strong central governing power (stronger than what we have anyways) and it would be good to have something like that, but you're right that they themselves should not take the reins. 2. I agree with this, though how would you suggest...

I can see how it can vary from region to region, but for the Monroe area, ms teams outnumber hs teams by around 20-25:10. Like I said, I'm sure that this is not the case for all regions, but there's obviously a disconnect somewhere between ms and hs, at least to some extent. If we reach out to the m...

The Michigan Quizbowl Alliance from last year is great, and I welcome its return. I've created this pretty rigorous routine the last few weeks that consists of making 1-2 study guides (so much more time-consuming than I thought) + studying 60-120 tossups + 75-100 bonus sets everyday. This usually ends up coming to about 1.5-3 hours every day, and about 12 hours every week. This l...

Re: What is the Best Way to Tell How Good a Player Actually
As odd as it may sound, PPB is a good indicator for how strong a player might be. By definition, bonuses are not indicative of one player, but they can be used to observe possible trends. For example, a player may be putting up 50-60 PPG on average, but his team is only getting around 10-12 PPB. Aga...
