But see that's the rub. I didn't authorize it. It was a fiat decision made solely by me in that round. For whatever reason, through my lack of assertiveness or inexperience, lines of authority were not clearly delineated and I was not behind certain decisions. Only later did I find out Irene was tel...

Re: Technophobia Discussion or Monologue, Really
[quote:086933e859=\"canaanbananarama\"]I suppose after a rather lackluster experience at WIT, I could expect no better from a tournament entirely run and edited by a team that submitted one of the poorer packets to that tournament. Unsurprisingly, I was right. Unfortunately, on top of that...

I'm going to assume you're referring to Ghazali's Tahafut-i-Falsafah. Yes there is an exhortation to concentrate on religious knowledge, but it's not so much an inherent position of that theology that knowledge for knowledge's sake is dangerous/sinful, but rather a statement of the classic Ashari do...

Tournament database feedback
Within the next few weeks, the edit and view interfaces will be revamped and made a little less clunky. I will also hopefully be implementing an email reminder system for people to submit their results after their tournament has happened. Any public feedback on this, or any other improvements/change...

Out of sheer curiosity, I wonder if chemical equilibrium questions might not make decent computation tossups. If the starting amounts and equilibrium constants are picked just so and kept simple, a player who knows what simplifications to make (5% rule) and what to do should be able to easily solve ...

Hey, sorry I didn't get to your email. I was out of town at the time and just got back. I have a friend who plays quizbowl for Malvern (Great Valley) that was asking similar questions. Within an hour, your best shots are tournaments at Princeton (November) and the University of Delaware (March) Fart...

Well, I think the condition is that the voter must have seen that team in play. Oh well... Actually, not quite. My only request is that you not participate if you have not seen at least 3 teams from outside your region (whom you would be willing to rank) play this year. I didn't necessarily state t...

Ok, so who in Ohio will be the teams to beat next year...Garfield - we will still be good... not nearly as good without Jon, Lucy and Anisha, but Dan, now a sophomore in the fall is working hard to catch up in some areas we need help in... and Zeke is also busting his tail... Did Jim decide to quit...

Most of what I would say has already been said above, so I'll keep it original. PACE's unique defining feature has been its small size, friendliness and collegiality (the All-Scholars game in particular), and this year's tournament was no exception. More than any other high school tournament, PACE t...

They're all fine houses. And to which fine house do you belong, sir? In any case, so far that makes me, Cliff (interestingly enough, the current Caltech quizbowl dictator, Parag Bhayani, is from Homewood-Flossmoor HS), Dan Rowlands from Eleanor Roosevelt, and Lev Pisarsky from Harker (decent Bay Ar...

Re: Oops!
Anybody needing a reminder on how good TJ is should have watched them play the final (unused) packet of questions, against moderators, where they rattled of six consecutive powers in building, i believe, a 375-40 lead against a team that included college national champions. Who, specifically? Two o...
