We were 7-3, but just as easily could have been 9-1 To be fair...if we had won either of our two heartbreakers, we likely would have played more difficult teams against which we would not win. I think around 7-3 is where we belong. - This may be true. But, when you look at the stats for the top tie...

Regarding the 750-80 final game in the VA NAQT championship finals, it should be noted that TJ A only had 3 of their players, and that Princess Anne has a strong team that beat TJ B and MWGS A to get to the finals. It would appear that anyone going to NAQT or PACE nationals will be playing for secon...

Matt, putting computations in the bonus would help some, especially in regards to specifying answer format. But, it doesn't completely solve the problem. It still requires speedy computation skill to beat the clock. Furthermore, if the tournament has bouncebacks, the other team can actually steal th...

If that's my post you're referring to (and I don't see how it could be otherwise; correct me if I'm wrong) Immaculate: I was not referring to anything you said, in particular. I found most of your comments insightful and I agree with them. In looking back, I was responding to Tegan's allegation tha...

Well, MWGS B only got to play 4 games! ( with the bye and RC's early departure.) In general, we like the questions and level of competition at the Duke tournament. But, we have come to expect the unexpected there. Last year seemed to go fine. But, the year before had the weather-induced madness, and...

Random notes
Was the consolation game for 5th place not played because the TD did not want to read it, or because RC A chose to not play it? I know MWGS B was there and ready to play it. I am not sure if RC A was at full strength or not. But regardless, RC A is one of the best teams we have seen this year. In a ...

I wouldn't worry about the difficulty of that final round too much. I am not sure how it impacted the consolation games. But, as for the finals, the better team ended up winning. Although both teams came into the final game as unbeatens, Raleigh Charter had racked up more impressive scores all day. ...

TJIAT 2005 Results
Raleigh Charter A edged Maggie Walker Governor's School A by 15 points in a relatively low scoring, difficult final round to win TJIAT 2005. Congratulations to Raleigh Charter. They have an outstanding team. Overall, it was a well run tournament with many strong teams. The questions were of high qua...

Congratulations to the elite eight of GSAC XII , all of whom qualify for the PACE National Scholastics Championship. Dr. E. T. Chuck and Matt Weiner were both on hand to personally extend invitations to the top 8 of this strong 50-team field. Thanks to everyone who attended and who helped with this ...

Maggie Walker Gov A eliminated Warren County in the first round of the playoffs by 235-50, in a game that seemed much closer than the score would indicate. It was good to see Warren County there this year. TJ A beat Gonzaga in the finals. (I don't know the score.) Gov B beat Gov A in the consolation...

If there were a better Texas team than St. John's this year, I would like to have seen them. A review of SJ's record on the year-end wrap thread is impressive. Not only could you make a strong case for them to be rated the best Texas team, but an equally strong case could be made that they were one ...

There's a few reasons that we don't eliminate teams from championship contention based on PPG. We don't want to pressure people into running up the score in blowout games if they are not comfortable doing that, and we don't want to be in a situation where we have to resolve dozens of protests, none...

I would be interested to hear people's impressions on the relative strength of the fields of NAQT vs. PACE. It seems to me that PACE might have had a little stronger field. The top 7 or 8 teams at NAQT were at PACE. Plus, teams like Richard Montgomery, Eleanor Roosevelt, Raleigh Charter, Gonzaga, Ne...

Those minimatches seemed to be a weird method for determining who advanced. If you are going to use total points from the minimatches to determine who adavances, why not use total points from the playoff rounds themselves? It was a round robin after all. It is not as if any team had an easier draw t...
