Dressing for (Quiz-Bowl) Success

I wanted to get a consensus idea about dressing when running a tournament - I have advised coaches/players that attire for our tournament is completely up to them (no shirt/tie required, they can come in pajamas if they want to honestly, whatever makes them comfortable.) But what about those moderat...

Bumping this just because we are within a 2 week period to this tournament date. We have 9 confirmed teams and one interested (awaiting their registration at the moment.) Any other interested teams should get a hold of me as soon as possible to reserve a spot!

Re: Fall Novice @ St. Anselm's Abbey School (10/22/11)

I agree. I should admit I did not see that long entry when I submitted my "nit-picky" comment, so I apologize if that offended anyone. I like the idea of balanced playoff pools better, and disqualifying one team for losing one game really doesn't boost their morale when playing either.

Re: Fall Novice @ St. Anselm's Abbey School (10/22/11)

Hence why I said it was just nit-picky in saying so. I think 4 brackets of 7 into 7 of 4 works the best.

Re: Fall Novice @ St. Anselm's Abbey School (10/22/11)

True - but that may (in a very nit-picky sense) give some teams an unfair advantage of already seeing how a team they could play in playoffs perform. This could result in changes of strategies for that team, etc. Mind you, it's very minuscule if that, but someone might say something about it.

Re: Fall Novice @ St. Anselm's Abbey School (10/22/11)

4 divisions of 7 for prelims (7 rounds, 6 games per team) - rebracketed into 7 divisions of 4 (3 matches per team) gives you 10 rounds, 9 matches, with plenty of breathing room.

I wouldn't keep teams in the same room - I try to balance those kinds of settings out, but I was just unsure of doing what I described (keeping a set number of rooms for each bracket) was an ad/disadvantage to certain teams in that sense.

So essentially you're suggesting the 2nd option I had, where I take the top 2 teams in each bracket, combine them into 1 playoff pool, carry over the previous game, and just have teams play 4 of the 5 teams in the pool (excluding the one played in the morning,) am I right?

Time for s'more help on another bracketing situation - this time, for 22 teams. I've thought about preliminary brackets going to 3 brackets, 2 having 7 and 1 having 8. Another 24 team format that would work for this audience is doing 4 pools of 6 for the prelims, taking the top 2 from each pool to the playoffs, split the playoff pool in half and run two balanced 4 team pools for the playoffs, then have the top 2 teams from each playoff pool do a cross bracket.
