Appropriate computer science answers at the high school level are going to tend to be on the practical discipline side of things, not the mathematics that make CS a legit subset of the college science distribution. Students take all sorts of classes in high school on things that are practical but in...

Yeah I know we all like having a math thread once a year, but the real issue is when is 1/1 computer science going to gain popular acceptance? 1/1 Veterinary medicine? 1/1 accounting? 1/1 electrical engineering? Computational math in high school quizbowl

The thread on ideal high school distribution got me thinking about computational math and its place in high school quizbowl. I think it has no place. -Pretty much all data has shown that the conversion rates for computational math are far below the conversion rates of other categories. -Computationa...

While we're on the subject of trash, I'd like to commend NAQT's baseball questions. All of the questions with baseball players as answers were powerable to a knowledgeable person and used meaningful statistics and accomplishments and not the almanacky crap that comes up a lot of the time.

Re: Reviving some HSNCT discussion

First, I'm not a terribly complete NAQT player because the music, movies, geography, political leaders, and current events are either things I don't know or have answer selection that tends to play away from my strengths. What I mean is that it's not such a big deal that we need to look backwards and say that Team X was clearly not worthy of a 200x HSNCT bid, as Charlie Dees seems so fond of doing.

PS-Sorice is right as is usually the case in non-Wallace-Stevens-related situations.
