The probability of your laptop being destroyed during a quizbowl tournament is very low. Has this actually ever happened? I'm all for being as generous as possible in rewarding accurate knowledge...that and I'm still bitter about negging a Horatii tossup because I only knew the answer from an art history class I'd taken in French and couldn't convert "Le Serment des Horaces" into something appropriately Latin.

Well, a formal police report got filed, so the laptop will be at least partly covered by insurance. The questions, on the other hand, will probably require a significant labor of love once Trygve is ready to even think about reconstructing them.

It was excellent - Mukherjee negged on the tossup about his posse, and generally people didn't always win the race to tossups on themselves. I've noticed that neither the official thank-you for this tournament nor any of the thank-yous in this thread mention Charles Meigs, who wrote a substantial part of the history and geography at this tournament. The take home lesson of this is that any proposed system must not impose any additional burdens on the end-user. Even it makes life much easier for editors, it won't get adopted unless it also somehow helps the people that will have to interact with it. Obviously in the end we'd like to end up with...
