Re: Writing for NAQT

I agree entirely with Seth and Andy. If anything, Seth may be understating the problem since after ICT there is HSNCT, which I'm sure will come down to the wire just like every other NAQT set this year. By and large its the same 15 or so people who do the bulk of writing for IS sets. Most of these p...

Reading Fast(er)

Hey-so we've been talking at RPI about putting in a bid for SCT's next year, and given the history of bidding in the region would almost certainly be awarded one. One of my biggest concerns about hosting Sectionals is a lack of readers who can consistently get through at least 20 tossups a round. Wh...

What part of this does making sure SCT is easier and getting teams to other tournaments so their first event isn't in February not take care of? Well yeah, it'd be nice if every team at sectionals at least had some experience, like ACF Fall or something, but this idea that there will be no new team...

Re: NAQT's Grad Student policy

The more I think about it, the more I have an issue with the idea that we should treat grad students just like college freshmen. That seems rather unfair to the true intended audience for D2. Well, according to the NAQT website: Division II is the lower of the two echelons of play recognized by NAQ...

Re: NAQT's Grad Student policy

So I guess a lot of this depends on what DI Sectionals eventually morphs into. If it becomes something that is harder ACF Regionals (which Jeff seems to be alright with) then I will maintain that new teams with grad students shouldn't be forced into DI. But if it is made into something on the easier...

I'm particularly interested to hear what people thought of the DII difficulty. NAQT's Grad Student policy

Could someone explain's NAQT policy on grad students having to play in DI? The only thing this seems to accomplish is forcing teams like SUNY Oneonta, with zero quizbowl experience, into DI. People are talking about how difficult the DI set was for experienced teams on the circuit, so I imagine how ...

The category that stands out to me in terms of excessive difficulty was lit, at least in terms of what I was reading in DII. Re: talk about individual questions here

Two minor issues I noticed while reading DII

1. There was a tossup on statins, and then a tossup the next round on cholesterol (I think there was significant clue overlap between the two)
2. One of the rounds had consecutive tossups on Manmohan Singh, India, and Salman Rushdie

This is probably a good place for me to apologize for making the absurd demand that ACF Fall be eliminated. This year's set was, despite an error here or there, a well written tournament. Well, the fact that Tintoretto has been asked in previous ACF Falls doesn't justify its placement in this set. It didn't belong in ACF Fall 2008 and it still doesn't belong in ACF Fall 2010.
