How long are the questions? Given that Nick (Trevkeeper, as he insists he be called) is a big proponent of pyramid style tossups, and is from one of the upper eschelon teams in the state, and that he's writing/overseeing the writing of said questions, I think that they will be well written sets. If...

This forum is so unorganized. Not so much, in the past we just use the Illinois forum to discuss tournaments from that weekend, how people did, and what ramifications it might have for the future. I don't know if I'm going to try solo or not. Might be fun. We'll see. Try the Solo. It is fun. And yo...

(remember, when 'Bago spanked you, Kelly, Anne, and two others whose names are escaping me) Now that was a fun match. I wish we could do stuff like that more often. I know there's the Turn the Tables event at Panasonic, and there are 2-3 adult quiz bowls hosted by Maine South, Wheaton North, and Lo...

Right now, I'm having the same problem that Lee seems to be having, in that I have a squadron of new freshmen, and I don't know what to do to get that score up higher. I feel bad stopping to lecture inbetween matches, when these kids need to be grounded in the format before they stand a chance at a ...

Look at me now. Quiz bowl has almost sort of decided my direction in life. I came to my high school, joined quiz bowl, and a slippery slope ensued. I carved out my niche as Token Lit Guy (to steal a term from Coleen Powers): now I'm an English major. I started coaching our frosh/soph team my junior ...

Ultima is done in Panasonic format except for that everyone gets their own buzzer It didn't used to be that way, back in the day before we had 4-team buzzers. And the Ultima also uses question sets that are much less lengthy than true Panasonic format; I think Panasonic is like, 180 questions or so...

Mr. Laird, you used SQBS (and operated it yourself, if I remember correctly) at NAQT State at Loyola last year, did you not? How did you like it? Is it worth it? No, I was busy moderating, and my former teammate, Mark Haase was doing it. I was looking over his shoulder for the most part, and it see...

Amdending DaGeneral's post: Illinois does, but the most active teams in our middle/jr high program (called the IESA--Illinois Elementary School Association, by the way) are, ironically enough, downstate. The northastn area of Illinois (Chicago and its suburbs) are barely active at all despite being...

While most tournaments in Illinois abide by the 'one-hour for lunch: be back or you're hosed' rule, I find that when lunch is provided, that the tournament tends to run much more smoothly, because no teams get back late, and you know where everyone is. It also kills the time difference factor when t...

Well, ummm.... I've noticed that no bigwigs have gotten into this conversation yet. I wonder why that is. As for making a database, that would need to be a first step. The problem is: how do you identify all of them...you really want a statewide database that covers the whole state. How about getting representatives from different parts of the state to contact the coaches in their area to see who's int...

I go to stevenson high school and it was painfully obvious to me that Buffalo Grove was the primeir team in said sectional. Their starting lineup is godlike. On paper, you like New Trier to win their sectional, but there are a few scenarios that could play out: Deerfield could get lucky and win (and it wouldn't so much be luck necesarily).......Loyola could beat Maine South, and a tsunami could wipe out Winnetka and Deerfield sending Loyola downstate .....
