What surprises me now is the increasingly strong California/Washington contingent. It will be interesting to see Left Coast Quizbowl and how they match up against the traditional Midwestern/Southern/DC powers.

This sounds very similar to the Deep Bench format of Carleton College's Eric Hillemann (where the preliminaries seed each individual and victory is a matter of total points distributed by seeds and wins) as well, though it might need some modification so as to not take 20+ rounds and last a weekend....

I sat in on their quizbowl practice and played a few ICT packets with some of the team. If you are a high school player who has notions of being immediately dominant in college just like you were in HS, kill your thread of an ego with ICT packets.

Why not a double round-robin packet submission? Have each team write two packets and staff during their byes. Record determines winner, and have a tiebreaker round ready if necessaty.
