Re: Better tournament format?

How many teams? Most if not all good tournaments have done away with single elimination. Swiss pairing plus RR works, RR+RR works. You're not breaking any ground here.

Why is Illinois bad?

I was thinking that we should have a centralized thread to talk about things we have done and want to do to make Illinois better.

I would like this thread to be a place that we can direct people that are trying to understand what makes Illinois bad, so could we try to keep it civil and tangent free?

Re: Getting Funding?

(I know we arent really a new team, and we arent really collegiate, but this question fits best here.) Does anyone have any fundraising ideas for a high school? We can't sell candy, and I doubt we can get enough people to come to carwashes with just 1 decentlooking girl. Our school is really low on...

Not that I know of. The 15 points thing was a concession made to coaches who think that bonuses have to be exactly double the value of toss-ups.

Re: Possible September Tournament

IMHO, I really feel that the exclusions to this tournament should be minimal at the worst. I agree that people like Zach, Deveau, Zahed, etc.. should be excluded; However when looking at our team (which seems to be the norm for the above average teams in our area in terms of player loss). We have tw...

In terms of the first playoff round, how are teams matched? I'd hate to play one game tomorrow but will a 6-4 team be paired against a 8-2 team? Or do the 6-4's play eachother in order to really enter the playoffs?

We ended up not playing off the 3-1's all in all I'd call it a success. Especially after looking at the single elimination bracket one kid was adamant on playing which had the 4-0 and all of the 3-1's on one side of the bracket.

one thing you may want to consider is taking one of those 1/1 and dedicating it to trash lit. Books like eragon and harry potter which I hate to see take the place of what the high school level would call literature.

That is my bad, I think after I wrote that I was alerted that VotDT had already been used, so I must've changed the answer as a note to myself to rewrite that question (a bad idea in retrospect). Well, the issue wasn't as much their math speed, we took 1 or 2 of 6. It was the fact that of the 6/6 math distribution all 6 math were answered. While 2 history were answered, 1 or 2 lit, 1fine arts. That's where the questions went wrong.
