Re: Centre Spring Invitational (5/2/09)
Well, we had various reasons for not attending the tournament, and really at this moment we need all our money for Nationals. Also, scheduling a tournament on Derby Day isn't the best idea for Kentucky schools.

Re: Kentucky NAQT
^That has a tendency to happen at Governor's Cup with their blind draw. Anyway, looks like an exciting field, and I've heard good things about the U of L tourney, so we are all looking forward to it. I really like how there is a wide selection of teams from across the state, which means that there i...

Re: Centre Spring Invitational (5/2/09)
I'll talk to our coaches about it, it may be something very fun to do. I loved Danville at GSP, and I think taking my teammates to Burke's and some of the other sites in town may be a nice way to end my career as a player.

Re: Kentucky 08-09
Johnson Central beat Dunbar 40-39 in the Championship game. Dunbar started VERY hot, but Johnson staged a huge rally from double digits down and was up at one point 40-33 before Dunbar finished nicely. It was one of the better games I've ever seen, and made me feel a whole lot better to being knocke...

Scott, Please don't take the comments from "lewiscomvp" as a reflection of the opinions of the FCHS team. He/she does not speak for me or the kids on my team. We truly do look forward to our matchup and feel it should be a very good game. From looking over the district and region scores f...

Re: Kentucky 08-09
Yeah, I'm really excited. Apparently Fleming County will be a formidable opponent (I'd love to see if their LA player actually knows everything about every book ever written, or if she may have missed one or two) and it should be fun playing against them. Dunbar was really fun today too. I'm a littl...

Re: Dunbar High School Tournament, March 7, 2009
I agree that it was a well run tournament. I found if exciting that there were probably 9 or 10 teams there that could have beaten any of the others during the day depending on the questions, so the majority of the games were very competitive. Overall, I liked the rules, efficiency, and flow of how ...

Re: Dunbar High School Tournament, March 7, 2009
This is shaping up to be a pretty good tournament. For our part, we'll know a whole lot more about our team after next weekend most likely.

Re: Kentucky 08-09
Well, the brackets for State are finally up: http://kaac.com/state/HSPoolAssignments-09.pdf Some good first round matchups this year. I wish I could watch Henry Clay vs. Johnson Central, Ballard vs. Manual, and Simon Kenton vs. Dunbar. We look to have a competitive pool too. Does anyone know much a...

Re: Kentucky 08-09
I hate to bring this up since it's a pretty sad story, but is anyone else following the controversy over Russell's team? According to WSAZ-TV and the Ashland Daily Independent, they manipulated the weather rule and are now being investigated. At this point, I feel bad for that entire region, because...

Re: Kentucky 08-09
Well, regionals were fun. I've noticed some big upsets throughout the state, namely Dunbar and Manual going down. I knew Henry Clay and KCD were good this year, but that still surprised me. Just means that some regional champions are going to get some very disappointing draws. I would hate to be the...

Re: Kentucky 08-09
I have a feeling that FPS and English Comp will be delayed from tomorrow to either Thursday or even later, at least in some parts of the state. How this Saturday goes depends on some melting and a little luck. Anyone else think we might ought to move the whole Governor's Cup format a little later in...

Re: Where to Start
Welcome to quizbowl. In Kentucky, our main competition is Governor's Cup. A home school can compete in it, but only if you receive recognition as a legitimate educational entity by your local school system. If you can do this, you then would need to pay entry fees, and you could end up having to pay...

Re: Kentucky 08-09
We went to the Brescia Academic Tournament today and we had questions that were pure Quick Recall and reminescent of what Gov Cup questions were 3 or 4 years ago, which made me realize how much KAAC has changed the questions in the last couple years to have a somewhat pyramidal element in them. I li...

Re: Kentucky 08-09
So, anybody got news, results, rankings, etc. on Kentucky competiton? I know Fleming County is tomorrow, so I'd like to hear how that goes from participants. We thought about going but decided on a local tournament.
