Re: NAQT Illinois State Championship - 2/22/2014, Urbana, IL

I realize I don't have a dog in this fight, but here's my thought. #1. Divide into two divisions of 18 #2. Each division runs 3 x 6 (5 games) #3. Each division rebrackets into another 3 x 6 (4 games + 1 carryover result from #2) #4. Combine the divisions and rebracket into 6 x 6 (2 games + 3 carryov...

Re: What are the main criticisms of pyramidal Quizbowl?

Our league switched to NAQT format this year, coming from a QU format. Cost prompted this switch, not any altruistic desire for pyramidal questions. The #1 criticism is indeed length. (I don't really have the heart to tell the rest of the league that we're on A sets and MS sets, and the IS sets woul...

So…. aren't you saying that blitzing should be outlawed because, once the pronoun is specified, answering "Shakespeare" is extra information that isn't correct?

EDIT: I mean blitzing with "Hamlet by Shakespeare", not just "Shakespeare".

Re: Why can't prompts be more specific?

Silly question about this… I guess the gap here is we can't anticipate what kind of incomplete answers might be said. I'd hate to let the perfect be the enemy of the good. No, we aren't going to be able to exhaustively predict what answers might be given. That's an existing problem, and it's one of ...

We had a case of "incredible shrinking tournament disease" and ended up with two schools (five teams) only. With the ND-USC game threatening to lock up traffic as well, it was decided to do a single round-robin.

First was Saint Joseph A (4-0, 26.3 ppb)

Given that there seem to be more than enough moderators (I think I counted fifteen), perhaps two more teams should be formed. That opens up the scheduling options, especially if you can scrape up another packet?

20 teams = 4 divisions of 5 = 5 packets
Then rebracket into 4 quads = 3 packets

Perhaps it's heresy to suggest this, but I count 25 Small Schools. Maybe there should be a separate HSNCT for them on the following weekend?
