Cordova has by far the shortest drive there. Cordova is like 10 miles away. And Jacksonville once decided to forgo ASCA State (this was before the NAQT State Title was up for grabs) for the prom.

As for best team assertions, if IS beat Grissom, I think that's a stronger statement than point distribution. A super strong player can easily mask the abilities of his teams just by being slightly faster. Another player on the team can have the same knowledge base as the best player, but is just ....

Springs ended the Grissom dynasty? I can honestly say I'm surprised, but I figured Springs would be a tough nut to crack...congrats to Springs, Grissom, LAMP, and Brindlee Mountain on an excellent state tourney, as well as Cullman and Holy Spirit on playoff appearances.

I've gotten to the point where I just don't know who could win ASCA besides Grissom. They've won 3 of the last 4, and 5 of the last 7. I think they take it all again, and continue to dominate the ASCA format, although the Brindlee Mountain kids will probably end the dynasty in 2 years.

I've known about Brindlee for the last couple of years. Last year, as 8th graders, their team beat us at the NAQT State Tournament, which cost us the state title. This team will be rough in 2 years, and they still have a pretty good pipeline coming from their middle school.

Yeah, I always tried to talk Mrs. Daily into allowing blitzing, and she was for it, but apparently many of the other coaches weren't. I don't know how many times I would get screwed because I would name a book from a character and they would want the author.

I'm just happy a team from northwest Alabama is actually doing well this year. Since Russellville stopped having a full-time team, I kinda lost all hope for the Shoals area.

WOW....CCA was a team that gave us fits last year, and now they are out of the state tourney? This does suck, and I hope that if St. Paul's can't go, then the powers-that-be at ASCA will let CCA get that slot, because it is completely unfair to leave a team that good out...

Sadly, regionals have to sort of be placed on geography (except in 2002, when Southside-Gadsden, Gadsden, Etowah, Jacksonville, and Prattville were all in the West Alabama pool). Russellville got beat in the first round by Mountain Brook, and I think he told me that it was Whitesburg vs. Mtn. Brook in the semis there, so I would guess Whitesburg won it, although I'm not really sure.

Wasn't that part Bubba Blue? I don't think I would have gotten it, but that's kinda misleading. Still, most everybody would have figured out that Bubba Gump, or Blue, was most definitely African American and would almost surely know better than to say Kevin Freaking Costner.

At district last year, I scored 220/300 tossup points in a match where we scored 440 points. If I remember correctly, we made like a 60 on our worksheet, but got 20 points on 8 of the 10 bonus opportunities.

In ASCA format when I was in Middle School, we beat some school 525-110. They got 100 on the worksheet, and two five-pointers.

In high school, the most a team I played on scored was 480 in the Florence City Invitational against some hapless Shoals area school.

Public, non-magnet schools that are 1A-3A with scholars bowl teams are fairly rare in Alabama.
