Re: Next Year
I wouldn't really expect anyone out of Illinois or the SEMO ACE camp to know much about them, but Carbondale from Illinois put up a pretty decent showing at PACE (low 20-something-th place, I think), especially for a first-time team that's returning literally everybody. On paper (statistically), the...

Re: Illinois '08-'09
Sweet action. We at Auburn will try our darnedest to make it down there. What decent (by which I mean appropriate for strong high school teams; I assume that all will have excellent questions) tournaments does UChicago hold?

Re: Illinois '08-'09
IHSA is not forcing you to deal with bad questions. Is this a nonsensical "if you don't like it, quit" statement or something more coded? My interpretation (well, really, my opinion carefully projected onto Mr. Reinstein) is that the IHSA does not force you to choose one-liner tournaments...

Re: Illinois '08-'09
Change is slowly happening. I don't know about computational math ever disappearing, but the Kickoff tournament run by the coaches' association (NOT the IHSA) will be run in mACF bonus format as somewhat of an experiment to test the southern portion of the state. The teams that seek to go beyond IHS...

Does anyone know what regular season PACE-format (not just PACE-affiliated) tournaments are running this year? Auburn and a perhaps a couple other Illinois teams would be interested in at least pursuing the possibility.

Re: Illinois '08-'09
I'd just like to point out that an undefeated season, even just within the state, depends on too many unpredictable factors to realistically think about it now. If the situation were different (like, if an NFL team played in a middle school league) then we could be having this discussion with no cav...

Re: 2008 Panasonic Academic Challenge updates
Panasonic has its merits, and I would hate to see it disappear. I would never, in a million years, make the claim that our (Team Illinois) victory means much in the realm of actual quiz bowl, but the Panasonic tournament can provide other benefits that regular quiz bowl cannot as a largely insular, ...

...time was a mitigating factor... Correct me if I'm wrong, Mr. Price, but it doesn't sound like you meant that the game was timed in the normal way but rather that they were going to stop play at a certain clock time regardless of the match--perhaps because of lateness issues. That doesn't make it...
