Re: An Open Letter Regarding the Administration of the Discord
I posted this in Discord already, but my thoughts on this letter: -The two main points the letter is asking for, i.e. appointing another admin (or admins) and producing a clear ruleset for the moderators to follow, are very good and should be implemented. I would guess that almost like 99% of people...

The Judge question was amusing since we were playing the round using The Judge. I liked that question better than the one on Chad Kubicek, although the latter was also amusing (but probably shouldn't have been in the finals).

I do not know the full sentence, so maybe this clarifies, but I buzzed on the Petticoat Junction tossup on the clue about "Sam Drucker's store" being a frequent setting. That also applies to the spinoff show, Green Acres.

When I was the treasurer of PACE, I got a check for several thousand dollars from a high school that had entered the NSC the year before and was working with an energy contractor named PACE. We worked it out easily, and I did not suggest that PACE change its name. Let's just say it moved David...to...

As a team which I think was literally the median team at CO, it seemed like all of the aforementioned history questions went like to the end, dead, or buzzer race near the end. That doesn't inherently mean much--I can't say any of us had deep history knowledge of the topics in question. In many case...

Yeah, those were good questions, and it was certainly good to see some comic strip and non-Western comic content coming up. But I do think a few more "traditional" American comic books could come up--even a few of those bonuses veered more into non-straight comics content. I don't recall i...

I'm glad Tim mentioned the general prose. I chuckled a lot, in a good way, hearing these questions, which I thought made for an entertaining experience. One last thing is that the randomization occasionally could have used some work. One round had two questions referencing 1990s WCW pay-per-views (I...

I very much enjoyed this tournament. One of the nice things about such a tournament is that each question (generally) has a very clear purpose or theme but is also somewhat unpredictable. At easier tournaments like ACRONYM, you can probably predict half of the answerlines and topics going in, but no...

I thought the protest process occasionally took too long in the sense of especially in rooms that only had one staffer, that staffer had to stop reading and fill out a protest form in the middle of a game. In most cases, the protest made no difference, and in most cases, the teams didn't really need...

Yeah, I'll have more to say when I see the set, but it felt like in particular bonus parts could get very verbose (which meant that the occasional very succinct part stood out!). This was a good set, fun experience, and well-run tournament (the moderators I had were probably the best I've ever had at a Chicago Open). I do think that we played too many games. We basically played from 8:30 to 11 PM and more if you were in the finals. That's a LOT of quizbowl and certainly bang...

I think without weighing into the "are masks good" argument, I'd just say that it probably makes more sense to keep an extant policy than change things. I would imagine almost 0 people who weren't going to go to CO because of the policy now will go, but I can think of several people who, w...

Going to bump this...is there nobody interested (or able) to run any sort of side event open or whatever? I can certainly understand if hosting is a pain in the butt, but it kind of sucks that there was/will be an east coast and a west coast summer open but not a midwestern one so far.

I have mixed feelings tossing up such a thing--it's a culturally important thing (as a book, film, and TV show!), but I doubt there's a lot of knowledge in the field that needs gradating. Might have been better as a bonus part. Cool idea, though.

Are there any plans for Midwest opens/summer tournaments? I'm not sure what schools could host or what the policies for hosting are, but ideally you could get a host of players. Re: Interest for an "NAQT-style" college housewrite
I think Caleb does identify some potential issues, but I think they can be worked around--at the very least, you might need to do something like bring in editors specifically to handle categories, like geo/CE/pop culture, that your other editors may not be able to do on their own.
