UC-Irvine has a team. I believe UC-Riverside also has a club, but I'm not positive.

Re: Penn Bowl Mirror at ULL (1/30)

Uh, how late did you start? If I were driving really far away for a tournament, I would think that it would be especially in my interest to get my money's worth of play, not the other way around. I remember Jake mentioning that at least one team left the tournament extremely early (i.e. after round...

Re: NAQT's agreement with ACUI

let's get NAQT and the larger community working together on that goal rather than on creating teams who only play DII Sectionals and high school questions. I agree, but this has been a problem for years. I know of clubs/teams that have essentially disappeared since winning DII sectionals. Newer clu...

There were 12 teams total, so I wonder if the field could have been merged to avoid the triple round robin in DI. Seems like the tournament went well, though.

Re: NAQT's agreement with ACUI

Is there anything in place to discourage student unions from setting up quizbowl clubs at schools that already have an independent circuit team? Usually schools don't allow this to happen. Two clubs generally can't have duplicate purposes, and the existing club gets priority. Let's look at two scen...

So does that mean that the ACUI at UT-Knoxville is hosting a sectional on 2/13? Since the agreement was just signed, we may see more ACUI chapters at different schools hosting the SCT. I'm suddenly not so sure that the agreement was a good idea after all.

That would be great. If the agreement was for all regions, then there could be a surge of new teams in the non-CBI formats.

Re: What should I tell an ACUI person?

When he says "participate", is he referring to having your club field a team, or simply having you staff the event? In any case, this event would be a great recruiting tool for your club, seeing as you don't have many members. Regardless of the capacity in which your club participates in t...

Re: discussion of novice tournaments

You should look into running a HS tournament to raise money. Why? A high school quiz bowl tournament is great marketing for a small college, and you have more money to go to more tournaments. You and your school win. Exactly. I would guess that 90% of college clubs host a high school tournament at ...

Re: Looking for Good Tournament to Simulate

So is it your goal to use a diverse set of tournaments to prevent "overfitting" of your simulation to one or a few tournaments? If so, I would think the criteria you mentioned would be satisfied as long as you used a large number of tournaments as your input. Then again, I'm thinking about...

That was my fault.

What's the difference between a college team beating or losing to another college team and beating or losing to a high school team of comparable skill? Personally, I'm vehemently against high school teams competing in college tournaments, regardless of their skill levels.

From the standpoint of the college team, I don't see what it would have to gain by defeating or losing to a high school team. It's a no-win situation.

UL Lafayette

UL Lafayette may not get many votes either, but our four going to the NAQT ICT are:

Jake Sundberg
Scott Broussard
Chris Fontenot
Bryan Fontenot

This is the same team that won DII in the Southwest Sectional.

As for ACF Nationals, I don't think we'll be going this year
