We have 4 or 5 people between Maggie Walker and Richard Montgomery, including Farah and I, who are capable of reading. That's it right now.

Re: Feynman's BONGOS: A Side Event (for PACE and maybe HSNCT

Here's a bunch of updates. PACE NSC: - We need rooms - We need buzzers -We need a few more staffers, but between the people we have signed up to help already and our teammates there shouldn't be a problem here. Like Ryan's post indicates above, PACE needs to keep all of the teams' buzzers locked up ...

Yeah, the events would inevitably coincide.

Re: Feynman's BONGOS: A Side Event (for PACE and maybe HSNCT

Okay, I have added a sheet to the sign up doc for HSNCT. I can't guarantee that the set will be run there though, since that will be highly contingent on obtaining staffers. We can wrangle up some of our teammates for helping staff the event at PACE, but RM and MW are only sending 1 team each to HSN...

BONGOS (PACE side event)

I've already posted this under the high school tournament announcements, but due to the target difficulty of this set it's been recommended to me that I post this here: I am happy to announce the existence of a science side event, Feynman's BONGOS (Battle Of Nerds Geeking Over Science). I definitely...

Re: Ghosts of Quiz Bowl's Past that You (sorta) Miss....

Not really in keeping with the first two examples, but: When I was "growing up" in high school quizbowl in the mid-Atlantic, it was often the case at some of the bigger high school-hosted tournaments (maybe for 4 or 5 times each year) that there would be a breakfast put out for teams in attendance,...

Re: NHBB/USGO 2015 High School Nationals Prizes

The assumption that just because one participates in the national history bowl they must have interest in the international history olympiad is ridiculous. Consider a scenario like this: some team begs their school for the money to go to NHBB, and through hard work by their coach, is able to come up...

Re: NAQT Johns Hopkins Invitational - Baltimore, MD - 3.28.1

You guys should really try to change the date of this tournament. Richard Montgomery has already claimed March 28th to be used as a date for holding their tournament, HERMES. There have already been multiple sign ups for that tournament, as can be seen here: http://hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewtopic.ph...

Stuff that would usually go into the trash part of the distro and has links to science. For example, science fiction books and movies.

Feynman's BONGOS: A Side Event (for PACE and maybe HSNCT)

I am happy to announce the existence of a science side event, Feynman's BONGOS (Battle Of Nerds Geeking Over Science). I definitely want to run this tournament on Saturday night at PACE, but if there is sufficient interest for it being held at HSNCT, then I'd like to make that happen too. There are ...

Re: ACF eligibility rule changes for 2015-2016

The main point on Fall seems to be that HS teams who play ACF Fall are too good to be competing with the "new" college teams. However, after looking at results from many of this year's ACF Fall sites, it is clear that many teams, especially those who won their site, had a significant number of playe...

Re: ACF eligibility rule changes for 2015-2016

As a current high school player, I have to say this is beyond disappointing. ACF Fall and especially ACF Regionals are two of our most anticipated tournaments of the year. We rely on ACF regionals as one of the best gauges to the question difficulty we’ll experience in June. It also provides some of...

I'm not sure if there's a reasonable limit to how many questions I should ask to see, but I'd like to see as many of these tossups as possible: closed, ubiquitin, cosmic inflation, and luminosity. I don't have any specific thing to discuss regarding these questions, I just wanted to see them because...

Re: Vermicious Knids who drop at the last minute

We have an extremely small program. When we say small program we mean one with students who are just starting to learn the basics of the games, not one ranked 20th in the nation. Personally I think High school students can and should be held to commitments. If you say you are going to be somewhere,...

Re: Vermicious Knids who drop at the last minute

When you sign up for A tournament, aren't you making a commitment to be there? When you drop at the last minute, doesn't that say something about your character? No, it doesn't say anything about your character. I don't claim to know about other schools or their motives for registering/unregisterin...

At first we were skeptical of this unusual format, but it grew on us as the day went on. It gave the top seeded teams tough competition in the prelims and made the playoffs much more dynamic than usual. Would recommend again.
