Re: ACF Fall for high schoolers

I fail to see how "you don't get any special treatment" is "unfair." I don't really think that the elite class of high school teams that are playing ACF Fall need any special dispensation in order to motivate them to play or whatever; ACF has produced a product for college novices that they've chose...

Re: ACF Fall for high schoolers

I'm fully aware of his point. You're missing mine, which is that the writing requirements aren't onerous for the very small minority of HS teams that meet them. Illinois has run a HS mirror of ACF fall for several years on essentially these rules and it has never failed to fill.

Re: Good Teams Playing A Sets

The reason we don't have a Ladue 2013 statline where they powered 80% of the questions is because, by and large, good teams don't play A sets. There's also the fact that Charlie was pretty clearly being hyperbolic, and 70% power rate is not some magical benchmark of too easy for the team.

Re: Good Teams Playing A Sets

I don't fully understand why a good team would play an A-set, since they stop being fun pretty quickly. If a-sets are all you have in the early fall, it seems like hosting a housewrite or something would be better than playing a tournament that is clearly below your level.

That said, quizbowl's job isn't to make new things true; if the fact that a person was gay truly has no bearing on the reasons that person is notable, then it shouldn't be asked about.
