I will also add that we approached this set from the perspective that an answer or a topic could come up multiple times as long as clues were not repeated (in other words, we didn't want players learning what to buzz on/answer from a previous question). More than one person pointed out that Manhunter was the first movie that Hannibal Lecter appeared in (as opposed to Silence of the Lambs, as mentioned in the bonus), although I notice his name is spelled differently in the former.

Honestly, I understand the reasons for the rule completely, and I don't disagree with it unless a rule on a message board somehow prevents me from writing a toss-up on Studio Ghibli.

I've been receiving answers to my e-mails, though admittedly one of them took a few weeks to get a response.

I do not agree that there has been tournament proliferation. For me, the real problem is an imbalance in the schedule. SJHS has not played a full regular set since Harvard, the 2nd Saturday of November. We only went to 4 tournaments from September to New Year's Day. Besides Princeton, no NJ tournam...

Kings Park A was (IIRC) the second-highest scoring 3-2 team, losing to North Babylon A and Valley Stream South A. Kings Park C was also 3-2.
Ranney's bracket had Valley Stream South E, Irvington C, Ridgewood C, White Plains C and Ward Melville A.

Ardsley A, Saint Joe's A, White Plains A, Georgetown Day School B, State College A, Bergen A, Georgetown Day School A, Great Neck South A
I also know first-hand that Irvington A, Scarsdale and Kellenberg A qualified. I do not know the other 5.

But it IS a norm for NAQT, since NAQT DOES include math computation toss-ups in its packets (which were crossed out mostly by hand by Will the day before the tournament), so Bernard's question isn't entirely unwarranted. I am back from moderating. The tournament was going remarkably smoothly for a 101-team tournament (plus one Team USA to round out the brackets), with the first 5 rounds done by 2 PM. 2009 was caused by a blizzard. I know that because our team (which would have already been a scab team on its original date) couldn't go due to it being rescheduled to our midterm week.

There were 90 teams a couple years back, and I think that's the highest it's ever been.
Funny, I still think Long Island's underrepresented here.

I imagine throwing a large part of your potential audience (that is, New Jersey) into a set conflict would hurt attendance at your tournament (not to mention Millburn's), so I'd go with 112A.

FaCT used 110A, and Kings Park is planning on using 114A, so it appears the answer is no one. It sounds like Hills West is intent on using an IS set though.

We'd be happy to have other teams from lower NY, but we'll be mainly focusing on reaching out to Long Island teams that have done well in RQB and The Challenge but haven't played "the real deal".

I'm thinking there should be at least 3 regions for New York. I can easily imagine middle schoolers from Buffalo or Rochester being discouraged from competing due to the nearest regional sites being either on the other side of the state or most of the way down through Pennsylvania.

Kings Park has an 80 minute long seminar that the team used for practice semi-often, almost exclusively for Challenge preparation.

Digging around in the NAQT database reveals that UW hosted two tournaments last year, and two schools (Lakeside and Bellevue, one in Seattle and the other very close) attended the 2010 HSNCT. As for Spokane, there was a team at Gonzaga which was last active in 2009, so presumably that won't help you...

I don't believe scores were kept for the anime packet. When I went to fall asleep, Drew was beating everyone else who was playing CULT during the fourth round (before that, Drew's team had won 2 out of 3 rounds).
