Louisiana 2014-15

We had a good start to the season today at Tulane with 18 teams from 12 different schools. Jesuit A went undefeated despite losing their top scorer last year to graduation. I was very impressed with the quality of teams for an early season tournament with a number of schools I hadn't seen at tournam...

Re: So Panasonic is back...

Why is Jesuit--a perfectly competent team on good quizbowl questions and probably the best team between Georgia and Texas--always choosing to go to the worst tournaments? This just seems baffling especially since they have so much good QB experience. Because they are perfectly aware that they have ...

Re: Assigning Moderators

Sorry, I disagree (although I'll concede the point as far as timed tournaments go). I had a tournament with 21 teams split into 3 groups of 7 teams. So I needed 9 moderators. I had 3 really good moderators, a couple of okay college kids, a few of my high schoolers who were okay, and one or two very ...

One of the things I learned was that if I have a tournament with multiple preliminary pools, I should put my best moderators together. Yes, this means some teams get stuck with worse moderators, but it also means that if the best moderators can finish more quickly, they can go relieve the weaker mod...

Re: How does a team make money?

Tournaments are a pretty common way to make money. I'd suggest hosting a middle school tournament. It's probably a little bit cheaper than hosting a high school tournament, and it'll be easier for your team to staff it (you won't be fielding any house teams). It also helps grow the game at the middl...
