Re: 2010 Ben Cooper Memorial Tournament set & discussion

I liked this set overall. Just one question that stood out to me as particularly weird: [10] In Syntactic Structures, Chomsky famously considers a nonsensical sentence, that this type of “ideas sleep furiously”. In order, give the two contradictory adjectives that modify the word “idea.” ANSWER: col...

Re: SCOP Mirror at NIU 10-30-2010

It seems like you'd rather err on the side of letting more people play - if someone is too good for the field they should know it, and I don't think many people have enough of an ego that they'd play below their level just to feel good about themselves. It seems like a shame to cut anyone out who wa...

For the academic tournament, is there going to be any separation of different levels of play? I don't foresee a "Latin Alums" vs. Sorice being a nail-biter (though idk if people at that level plan to play). And looking at a random round from Sun N' Fun 2008, it definitely seems too hard for a field ...

Yeah, I don't think anyone is arguing that we should remove trash because some people have pet subjects that they will know really well - that goes against everything that pyramidal quiz bowl is about. It's entirely about the subject, and whether or not it is academic.
