Re: NHBB Nationals Discussion Thread

The posters was a good idea, but it clearly was not used in the sense they were meant to be used. They contained pre-filled data about where teams from each group were supposed to go for their afternoon rounds (bracket, room or meeting place, site captain, time etc) based on their prelim rankings, b...

Re: NHBB Nationals Discussion Thread

I had no stake in the tournament except as a staffer, and I do not have an opinion either way about the organization of the tournament. I did feel, however, that I should comment on some aspects of the set used at NHBB. (If the set isn't cleared yet, I would request a moderator to move this to a pri...

Re: Watkins-gate news media link collection - 19 Total

Apparently newspapers must partially censor the word stripped (regardless of context) in Nigeria. http://www.informationng.com/2013/03/harvard-university-stripped-of-quiz-tournament-titles-for-cheating.html?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=harvard-university-striped-of-quiz-tournament-titl...

Re: General Security Discussion

There is an ideal situation in terms of security. In that ideal situation, the Head Editor (and the Head Editor's assistants who played a role in finalizing the packets) is the only one with full access to the questions. Everybody else, including the TDs at various sites, only gets access to each r...

Re: General Security Discussion

Also it adds another thing that could go wrong, like if the writer's server goes down. I have attended tournaments where each individual packet was password-protected, though I can't say if it affected the flow of the tournament or not. Yes, there may be server issues, but I would hope that there w...

Re: General Security Discussion

Hosting the packets and sending a password has almost the exact same security risk as just sending the packets. If somebody can access the e-mail to get the packets, they can access the e-mail to get the password, and then get the packets. The only benefit is possibly some sort of trace or IP track...

Re: General Security Discussion

Not many people remember this, but the cheating incident that occurred at Harvey Mudd years ago was due to a guy who was dating the Scripps College club president when the latter institution hosted ACF Regionals. We can and should take a lot of precautions, but at some point, unless you're doing na...

General Security Discussion

Okay, so I rarely post on the forums and don't want to become a central part of the discussion and fallout from the recent cheating scandal, but I felt I had to post and start a new thread on this topic since the existing ones were NAQT-specific or just an outlet to vent. My question is, what is qui...

Re: MUT at MIT (4/28/12)

Hopefully you got my email, but I thought I should also post on the thread to let you know that NYU would like to bring two teams (and a buzzer) to this tournament.

Thanks!

Re: Peaceful Resolution at George Mason University (3/3/2012)

NYU will be bringing a team to this, and Doug Yetman (Hunter College/Laguardia CC) will be joining us.

A field update on this page will be appreciated so we have an idea of who we are playing.

Re: NAQT-ACUI Region 3 SCT at Princeton University

So what happens now? Does NYU get a bid for ICT as the highest placed DII team, or do we still have to play some kind of playoff vs RPI B? We were willing to play an advantaged final but we were told we don't have to. I admit it was an anti-climactic end to what was a great tournament for us otherwi...

Re: ACF Regionals Northeast at Brown (2/18/2012)

NYU would like to bring one team, one buzzer, one laptop and one moderator. We will only be bringing players who are not required to submit packets, since we didn't submit one.

I will try to get some NYU people interested in this, but if there is insufficient interest, I would be interested in coming in to help as a moderator.
