Right, I should have specified. I was counting any game as an upset where the team that won the game ended up with a lower PPG across the whole tournament. My method probably counted a lot of games as "upsets" where the teams were evenly matched, or where the outcome was actually what both teams exp...

Using a very crude PPG method to determine favourites and underdogs, I count:
- 5 upsets in 25 top-bracket games (20%) at 2013 ICT
- 14 upsets in 66 top-bracket games (21%) at 2013 ACF Nationals

John's posts here are always really good, but I'll disagree with one point: there is a pretty good way to measure a player's strength just by looking at stats, and it's how many powers they get. Reasons you would buzz in early and power a question: 1. You're at least 90% certain of the answer (perha...

I'll make some poorly-informed guesses based on past ICT winners. The frontrunner, Virginia, is maybe 30% to win, and the chance of a team outside of [Will's top-5 + Harvard + Michigan] winning is probably under 5%. Ways a surprise team could win ICT, in order of plausibility: 1. An elite player joi...

A quick note: There's a temptation, when you submit trash questions, to write jokes into the questions, and then to be excited to hear those questions played at a tournament -- which amounts to you sharing a joke with people via the questions you submit.
