Re: Music only packets?

If you go here (http://www.carloangiuli.com/acfdb/), you can search for music questions, some of which are really hard.

Re: Class of 09, Where Will You Be Playing Next Year

For any William and Mary people, my sister So-Jung Youn (TJ class of 09) and her friend Peter Kye (also TJ) are going to William and Mary next year and they've expressed interest in playing quizbowl. They weren't really active in high school, unfortunately, but they're willing to try for what it's w...

Re: Virginia NAQT Championship May 9 (Richmond)

I wasn't able to go to this tournament, and I haven't looked at the questions, so I'm not quite sure how good or bad the questions are. However, I don't think the fact that they write a lot of question is an excuse for poor question quality, even if they are keeping up with the growing demand (quant...

Re: DC/MD/VA Date Claim 09-10

TJ is tentatively scheduling its fall tournament for 10/17/09 and the house-written tournament for 1/30/10. We may also hold a house-written novice tournament on 4/17/09 although we have yet to finalize the logistics for this tournament or even decide if it's actual going to happen.

Re: HAVOC II @ MLWGS, 4/25 - not in conflict with the BoB test

yeah, that makes sense. I guessing looking back and thinking about the questions makes it seem a lot more obvious than when you're actually playing, which is probably what happened with me. Again, thanks for running such a high-quality and efficient tournament.

Re: HAVOC II @ MLWGS, 4/25 - not in conflict with the BoB test

I thought that the science and math question, especially the chem questions, were particularly well-written. However, there was one question that I didn't really like simply because of the insane level of transparency in the lead in. TU 9 round 5: One of these compounds, the heptahydrate of magnesiu...

Re: HAVOC II @ MLWGS, 4/25 - not in conflict with the BoB test

This was a very well-run and fun tournament to play in. I'm especially thankful to the readers and the directors for making HAVOC so smooth and efficient. The questions seemed very well-written, but (this isn't a criticism, just an observation) it seemed to me that there were a lot of military histo...

Hi Sarah,

Is the field still open for one more team? TJ can now definitely bring a fifth team.

I'm just a high school student, but I would like to play in this if that's alright with the people running it.

Re: Fall High School Novice Tournament?

TJ would like to write a middle school tournament next year, although depending on the number of interested middle schools in the area, we may expand the field to include 9th graders also. Would these two tournaments conflict with each other, or could we possibly collaborate on one tournament?

Re: RAPPoff Inaugural Tournament 4/4/09 at Rappahannock County

In general, I felt that this was a very good tournament, considering that this was your first time hosting a tournament and that you had to reorganize the brackets for missing teams. My only comment would be that I was not completely satisfied with some of the moderating, but I would still be intere...

Re: What does/should the middle school canon consist of?

This is a distribution that I thought up today. Any suggestions/comments? 1 Biology 1 Chemistry/Physics 1 Earth Science 1 Comp Sci/Math/General Science 2 U.S. Literature 2 European Literature 1 RMP (Mostly M, but probably some R and very little P) 1 U.S. History 1 European History 1 World History 1 ...

Re: What does/should the middle school canon consist of?

I believe Longfellow is signed up to go to HAVOC. If not, I can talk to their coach (one of my former teachers) and I’m sure that they’d be interested in attending. Also, besides KMO and possibly Science Bowl, does anyone know of any other activities that middle schools do that vaguely resembles qui...

Re: What does/should the middle school canon consist of?

As Stephen said, this tournament will focus on middle schools, but we'd like to also get local high schools that usually only do KMO or It's Academic involved too. That said, what would be the target difficulty for that skill-level? Thank you to everyone who offered their help and/or ideas.

Re: RAQIT I @ Robinson SS, Fairfax, VA -- POSTPONED INDEFINITELY

I was really looking forward to this tournament, and needless to say, I was disappointed when I learned that it was postponed yesterday. It is unfortunate that a lack of communication between both Mr. Campana and HSAPQ and between the members of HSAPQ postponed what should have been an extremely enj...
