We can start at any time on Sunday; I was planning 8:30. I was also planning on doing a shorter lunch break, because there are many a number of fast options in a 5-minute walking radius from the tournament.

As many other people have mentioned, this tournament was excellent. I especially appreciated the inclusion of historically-oriented topics like "Napoleon taking art from people" and Maria Altmann's legal dispute over the ownership of those Klimt paintings, and the focus on clues about notable shots/...

Re: RILKE Discussion

The Discovery of Heaven may indeed be the most important recent Dutch novel, just as The Year of the Hare may be the most important recent Finnish novel, but given the status of those two literary traditions, it is still very likely that very few players have even cursory knowledge of them. Re: RILKE Discussion

I'll take slight issue with two of your premises. One is that you might just has well have tossed up The Hunger Angel (or other works of equivalent difficulty) at this tournament. I can only recall a couple of tossups of similar difficulty at last year's Gorilla Lit, and I recall finding them ill-ad...

Re: RILKE Discussion

I have to agree that many of the common links were excessively hard. The vision for this tournament that John laid out was to have common links which would have early clues about works that are worth knowing but that don't come up much, but later clues about canonical works, in order to incorporate ...

I think your rationale is a reasonable one, Jerry, even though I have a philosophical disagreement with it, and it's certainly not the case that the player was trying to game the system or anything like that. I think if people in general agree with that rationale, then it should be codified in the r...

Re: Chicago Open thanks and discussion

To be clear, I agree that the fact that one of my teammates also knew the clue is not relevant to protest resolution. What I disagree about is that you can have a clue without a pronoun. I agree in general that it is content, not syntax, which is relevant to whether something or not is a clue; thus ...

I enjoyed this tournament a lot, and don't have many complaints about the questions, but I do want to discuss a protest resolution (apologies if this should be a separate thread, in which case a moderator can move it). "This color partly names an Henri Matisse painting" is, in fact, not a clue, because it's part of a longer clue.
