Re: Congratulations to State College - #1 Pre-Nats!

Nationals experience? Nope.
Normal B team? Nope.
Talented underclassmen? Very.

Re: 09-10 Pre-Nationals HS Poll - Vote by May 25!

A word of warning before you guys vote: MSJ is essentially playing with a new team, with only me returning to HSNCT from last year's A and B teams. Don't underestimate our underclassmen though.

Re: 2010 HSNCT Fiesta!

Hide and seek could be troublesome. I'm up for board games or cards. Or LAN parties.

At least the graph is concave down. Maybe ACF sets from a few years back?

Re: Getting Good at History

I find that AP level history classes can teach relatively early clues, European History especially. Studying for the AP test parallels pretty well with learning history for quizbowl.

Re: Coaching

Our school has been coachless since our team's conception many years back. I would have to say that frequency of practice, as well as study materials, help a great deal. The more questions heard the better players become. I'm currently bequeathing the materials I've already read to underclassmen. It...

btw, good idea to email out as most of the bay area circuit has never heard of this site.

Re: Southern California '09-'10

WCI will most likely be the first high school tournament for us NorCal teams since November. Our circuit is less active than Montana's. MSJ seems to be large enough of a club to be able to host their own tournament (i.e. you sent 5 teams to a tournament once), so why don't you host your own tournam...

Re: NorCal 09-10

So Ben is still there? Dang. Oh well, I still don't see Gunn qualifying for nationals. Berkeley graduated most of their team, I believe. There's still M-A, with their slave driver of a coach; they pose a challenge on occasion.

Re: NorCal 09-10

Well, I know that Jordan is definitely gone from San Mateo, but they have an OK b team. Gunn lost everyone, so they're completely out, their b and c teams showed a little promise, but not enough. We (MSJ) only lost one senior, so we should be able to rise to the top. I know you guys have lost much o...

Re: NorCal 08-09

sfbaal .com http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=ponxC9f0fahmoKwDjuoTrZA&gid=3 31 points qualifies for playoffs. 'Nuff said. However, BAAL is the least legitimate quizbowl format I've seen. Gaius, who runs the tournament, pays people to write questions and does a poor editing job, imo. The distrib...

Re: NorCal 08-09

I think NorCal has put itself back on the map. After three years of sending no teams of note to any national tournament, 5 teams went to HSNCT this year: Berkeley, Bellarmine A&B, and Mission San Jose A&b. The Bellarmine and Mission teams all advanced to the playoffs, with Mission San Jose tying for...

NorCal 08-09

Because NorCal has only had three tournaments so far this year, I would like people's input on ranking them.

The area's top teams this year are: Mission San Jose, Bellarmine, San Mateo, and Harker.
