I'm kind of glad it's gone. This tourney has drawn some good teams away from real nationals the last couple years, including the KY State Champions (Johnson Central, who won NTAE) last year. Hopefully

This is an intriguing idea. I think it'd be an interesting ecumenical pursuit if people from different denominations collaborated on the set, and maybe even different churches could compete on it as well.

The writing guidelines KAAC has posted on their website ask for questions that most people would recognize as improved or possibly even good. If the GovCup questions follow the ideas they've lined out (multiple clues in descending order of difficulty, etc.) then they should be better questions.

I agree with you on the thing about different regions. In my opinion, everyone here is tied together by quizbowl, and where someone is from doesn't make their arguments any more or less valid.

Charles brings up a good point, which is basically location. In places like Illinois or the Mid-Atlantic, good quizbowl (or even average quizbowl) is easy to find, and on most weekends at that. If you look at the actual numbers of teams that play quizbowl tournaments in Kentucky, or any other state under these systems, the number gets much closer to what you would expect in any normal circuit. we had a kid ruled incorrect because a question asked for the site of a battle, and he responded with "Battle of ________." He was ruled incorrect because "the question just asks for the site, and you named the battle." This is one of the most terrible rulings I've ever heard of...

Blitzing rules vary all over. A lot of highly regarded formats accept it. KAAC (Kentucky format) only allows for extra information so long as a student isn't "fishing for an answer" which is interpreted by most people as not really allowing students to blitz. Also, there's a rule only need...
