What it was was quizbowl for everyone, which on some level it needs to be. For the same reason they allow metal bats in high school baseball, the state series will never be played on an HSAPQ set. At the Loyburn tournament, the bottom 3 placing A teams all averaged over 170 PPG. This has nothing to do with what I'm saying. That stat is quite possible...but if you look at those teams, I bet they did not lose in the first or second rounds of their regionals. Teams that attend such tournaments,...

I'm not speaking of question style, I'm referring to answer space...pyramidal is great, but a lot of Illinois teams aren't going to get HSAPQ questions even on the giveaway.

If what we as a community are trying to promote is good quizbowl, shouldn't we accept any steps toward that? In some places, that might be moving to HSAPQ or a good house-written set. The reality is that the people here are not your students. Too many teachers have trouble getting out of the classroom authority model. People in and past college and students at other schools in other states do not automatically have to agree with you when you are wrong under penalty of school san...

This might be taking things in a slightly different direction, but why not reduce trash (or computational math) in favor of religion and mythology? Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the high school distribution has 0.9/0.8 religion and mythology out of 24/24 per packet, significantly less ...

It's a phenomenal oppurtunity with the HSNCT being in Chicago. I hope a lot of the teams that qualified will take the time to look into it, funds permitting, because it could be a great catalyst for Illinois. These "middling" teams are the exact target audience we want to expose to great tournaments...
