Sadly Watson, your strategy is more like buzz when you vaguely have some kind of clue about the tossup.

Re: Starting a College Team

Yeah...trust me. I would like to go tournaments as soon as I form a team (such as this EFT tournament that Chris mentioned). I honestly don't care if we suck initially. And I'll repeat my previous question: where will the ACF falls be held? I checked the ACF site but they don't mention it anywhere.

Starting a College Team

For those who don't know me, my name is Aaron Cohen, a senior at the Bergen County Academies. For three years I've been an active member of my high school's quizbowl team and would like to continue playing in college. In the fall I will be attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, which is located...

Bergen loses Sang and me. Watson will most likely remain the top scorer. There are some players who have potential/motivation to improve like Sib and Gabe and hopefully can fill my void. Yeah...18 ppb on regular IS is....decent. At THS 1138, held on regular IS questions, Charter A had a beastly 28.3 ppb. Now that's a good bonus rate! And yes, in a regular pyramidal game, Charter A would massacre BTW. I mean no disrespect to BTW but Charter A is just that good.

Some predictions from the NYC area. Kellenberg has the potential to be very good. They finished tied for 11th at HSNCT and are returning their entiring A team. I agree with the coach of Caesar Rodney. Let me get straight to my point: despite some issues I had with the tournament set, I generally felt they were acceptable. True. Games are won on bonuses, not powers (usually). But there's a difference if you get a tossup right through a buzzer race at the very end of the question as opposed to getting right unopposed early on in the question

Power theory (was: Am I just stupid/ignorant?)

So I'm looking at the ACF article on the quizbowl and I noticed that it says: "However, NAQT represented a regression to certain College Bowl-like features...gimmicks such as the power tossup" So I have to ask, what is gimmicky about powers? It rewards someone for having a deeper level of knowledge....

Still Hunter started out as nothing, while Caesar Rodney has a long established team. Obviously being a magnet school gives them an above average talent base, but they still had to work hard to reach this level. At least I assume that's what they did.
