I'd say the risk with writing solely history-based disease questions is being trapped in a small "historical disease" canon. A question on Marfan's that briefly mentions Paganini and/or Abraham Lincoln in between biology clues is fine, but how many diseases other than, say, yellow fever, black plagu...

If you know enough about a subject to write a well-crafted yet playable question on it , then great, you should definitely get on that. But if you don't, it's much better to write a somewhat banal but competent question on a person or a work than to write a novel but poor question on a concept. Thi...

Back on topic, I wasn't a big fan of name dropping "Victory Over the Sun" in the Suprematism tossup and then having it not be on Futurism.

TNR may be a good all-purpose, but even Helvetica would be better for a tossup. Also, Futura is one of the most suave-looking fonts out there.

The history went through more-or-less unchanged, although some of my tossups were (rightly!) cut for excessive difficulty. This is interesting, considering that Auroni's packet had some very difficult tossups go through just fine. This was definitely a tournament that could have been vastly improve...

There's the constant joke of "no quizbowl tournament has ever started on time," and certainly tournaments that I have run or helped run have started late. I have to question the assertion that removing the element of competition from this tournament is a bad idea. Nobody in favor of Jonathan and Ahmad's format, or Jonathan and Ahmad themselves, favors removing the element of competition from quizbowl overall. But to play a novelty experiment like this...
