Part of the reason UMD holds its tournament on Sunday might be because of It's academic taping on the 28th. I know RM (or Gonzaga?) and us (WJ) have it that day, and if the other semifinals are taped that day, those might include teams like TJ/Whitman/Blake.

Due to MCPS's phobia of snow, we are forced to reschedule our tournament to (tentatively) 24th, the next Saturday. edit: 24th probably wouldn't work either, so it will probably be moved to March or even April.

We had 32 teams signed up, but that might change because of rescheduling.

I liked the questions very much. The distribution I thought were rather unique, but I personally liked it. However, other aspects of the tournament were frustrating. You acknowledged the problem in your post, but fundamentally the problem might have been that 60 teams are just too many to handle. We...

With two weeks to the tournament, we have only eleven teams registered so far.
We would accept last-minute sign ups, but the earlier the more preferable so please register soon. Thanks!

RESULTS: WJIAT (3/24) @ Walter Johnson HS (Bethesda,MD)

We cordially invite all academic teams to participate in Walter Johnson Invitational Academic Tournament, taking place on Feb. 17th at our high school in Bethesda, Maryland. We will be using NAQT IS-62 question set. This tournament is a PACE qualifier (as well as, of course, a NAQT qualifier). The t...

This is irrelevant, but may I say: You were Matt Morrison!? I was expecting an eccentric (judging from your posts), but you looked like normal, nice person. It seems that there is a wall between the excellent schools (such as RM, Gov, TJ, Gonzaga) and the good schools (Whitman, Blake, WJ, for instan...

It was a fairly well-run tournament (considering late arrivals and such) with very nice questions, although they were pretty easy and guessable at times.
Congrats to TJ and SC and thanks to Gov School for a fun, competitive tournament.

online practice

Chris Ray used to hold online practices on AIM, but I don't hear about it going on anymore.

I want to revive it, so if anyone is interested please AIM me at aestheteboy. Everyone is welcome.

For any one who cares . . . Japan and Korea did play. Japan won 15-6. Some of the questions were like (with a picture of maccupicchu) which country is it in? Name all planets in the solar system with a diameter greater than that of Earth. Who is the principle actor in Da Vinci Code ? Who solved the ...

I might sound stubborn, but my wish is not to antagonize anyone so . . . I don't think anyone would disagree with you that pronunciation is an important part of knowledge. I disagree. One person even said knowledge does not include "knowing how to pronounce his name." Everyone seems to believe in "c...

Thank you for the comments and responses. I think there are three different things being discussed: anglicizing, WRONG pronunciation (like munch), and small mispronunciation (like Friedan). I agree about the last one. Small variations should be accepted. About anglicizing... We should speak the lang...

Pronunciation

I've always thought giving authentic pronunciation is important . . . because no one likes it when people say his or her name wrong. NAQT rule says, "A plausible or phonetic pronunciation is usually acceptable, unless it demonstrates a fundamental lack of understanding about the correct answer." Pro...

Being Japanese, I'm really excited about this.
Not that I think we have any real chance . . .

The website doesn't mention the international teams at all.
I guess they're, as the naqt page said, still on planning stage on many things.

No, that was not the reason I made the account.

There was a bonus in quarter final round, and it asked for Snow whatever by Kawabata. The answer was Snow Spring but I'm pretty sure it's Snow Country.
