Are you the same school as Royal Oak Kimball? If so, your coach will get the emails about MSU's tournaments. MSU may have a September tournament this year. I'll probably get the ball rolling on planning that soon. We will also have our traditional March tournament.

Kevin Roth has won the scoring title at every tournament he's been to. While he doesn't go to many tournaments, that should get him some consideration for the top 20.

Kevin Roth is heading to Eastern Europe with the Peace Corps and then will likely attend graduate school, but has pretty much indicated his retirement from quiz bowl.

I enjoyed CBI nationals. Seattle is a great city and the weather most of the time was great. We had all of our expenses paid by the University Activities Board and our campus bookstore and received a $38 per diem for expenses (which we did not use up). With our quiz bowl organization's fund, there i...

I did a test to determine if there was a relationship between quiz bowl success and MEAP (the Michigan high school standardized test) scores using data from the tournament that I directed at Michigan State. Although there were two major outliers, I found a significant relationship. As MEAP scores im...

Regarding the 750-80 final game in the VA NAQT championship finals, it should be noted that TJ A only had 3 of their players, and that Princess Anne has a strong team that beat TJ B and MWGS A to get to the finals. It would appear that anyone going to NAQT or PACE nationals will be playing for seco...

My mistake earlier--I got a little carried away. That highest score was Eisenhower defeating Port Huron 1200-105 (this immediately after defeating Saline 1015-355). As for highest losing score, try Livonia Churchill defeating Eisenhower 625-620 in a second round match in that same tournament. We (E...

After I randomly made the divisions, I separated A and B teams so that two teams from the same school wouldn't play each other in the preliminary rounds and made minor adjustments to the divisions so they would be, in my opinion, of as equal difficulty as possible (I think I only moved one team). Ho...

Kevin Roth has not played very often in college and he has, indeed, won a scoring title. He finished first at the Elvis tournament a couple years ago.

But I do agree that there is a tough transition. I'll see how I do at the MLK next week, but I'm not expecting to have a spectacular performance.
