Re: 2021 ACF Regionals - Specific Question Discussion

Referring to Sandi as her half-brother in the Wide Sargasso Sea tossup kind of threw me off, since Antoinette refers to him as her cousin throughout the book. I'm not entirely clear on their exact relation, but it seems like from a quick command+f in the book that he's the son of Alexander Cosway, ...

Re: 2021 ACF Regionals - Specific Question Discussion

Could I see the tossup on Pangloss? I buzzed second line with Candide because Candide also goes with Pangloss to see the dervish and participates in the conversation with him. (The Wikipedia summary makes out Candide to be the most involved in that conversation, though admittedly in the book he onl...

Re: 2021 ACF Regionals - Specific Question Discussion

I, and at least a few other people I've spoken to, found the Turing tossup confusingly worded. My teammate buzzed and negged with Searle at the same place I would have, shortly before Searle's name was said. I had just studied the Chinese Room thought experiment with what I thought was a reasonable...

In addition to the ones Jaimie already mentioned, here is a non-exhaustive list of some of my favorite submissions (not all of which were edited by me): Berkeley A: tossup on Homer (in the works of Derek Walcott), bonus on translations of Yeats MIT A: tossup on millers in The Canterbury Tales UNC B:...

Re: Florida Spring Tournament (FST) @ UChicago 5/11

Congratulations to Chicago B, who beat Chicago A in the second game of an advantaged final to win. Prelim stats are available here:

Final stats should be up in the next day or so. Thanks to all the teams for coming out!

Re: New England (CT, MA, VT, NH) 2015-16

Phillips Academy Andover would like to reserve April 9th for the NAQT Massachusetts State Championships. Do you know if this tournament is/might potentially be open to non-Massachusetts teams? I believe NAQT's policy is that out-of-state teams are allowed (at the host's discretion) to attend anothe...

Would this tournament be open to non-Massachusetts teams?

Re: Potential Northeast HS Mirror of ACF Fall

Put Bishop Guertin down as a maybe. Also, just so I have somewhat of an idea, what does the difficulty level of the competition tend to be at ACF Fall relative to, say, HFT?

Re: Massachusetts NAQT State Championship @ MIT (April 11, 2

Is this tournament only for Massachusetts teams, or are teams from states without an NAQT championship allowed to enter a state finals for another state? NH does not have its own NAQT championship.

Re: Connecticut Invitational VI 2/21/15

Bishop Guertin would like to commend and thank everyone at E.O. Smith (and presumably UConn) for a very well-run and enjoyable tournament. Too bad that the weather did not cooperate, but you guys certainly handled the situation very well. And congrats to Lexington, Darien, and Kellenberg on their gr...
